Did you see this? From www.jconline.com Let's suffice it to say that we probably won't be seeing our list of tying items fulfilled AND we'll need to be on the hunt for a new place for the monthly tying. T- March 10, 2009 Sportsman's Warehouse closing at Pavilions By MAX SHOWALTER mshowalter@jconline.com A store that covers nearly 50,000 square feet of space at the Lafayette Pavilions shopping center will soon be going out of business. Sportsman's Warehouse has announced plans to close its Lafayette store near the corner of Creasy Lane and Indiana 26 East sometime during the period between May 11 and May 24. The store opened in August 2006, and a spokeswoman for the Midvale, Utah-based company said the closing was prompted by "mostly liquidation, to reduce bank debt." Sportsman's Warehouse recently was purchased by UFA Co-operative Ltd., a Canadian firm with holdings that include retail stores and fueling stations. The Lafayette store, which has 44 employees, is one of 23 being closed. "Employees will be provided with at least 60 days notice, or pay in lieu thereof, in accordance with applicable state and/or federal law," said Stuart Utgaard, the company's chief executive officer. "It is hoped that these actions will enable the firm to go forward as a viable entity with approximately 2,300 employees." For more on this story, read Wednesday's J&C.

I had an application in there. Suffice it to say that when my wife took the call today from Sportsman's they said that they were closing and that I wouldn't be hired.
When asked how long they would remain open they said 30 to 60 days. Probably closer to 30.

It will be interesting to see how they handle their current inventory, whether they push to move as much as possible through deep discounts or operate business as usual and transfer remaining inventory to the stores staying open.

I spoke with Lee yesterday and he said that from what he's been told, everything in the store would be sold, including the racks. The UTC thread order did make it to the shelves though, it's in the thread rack, you have to look for it amongst all the other threads. Lee seems to think that when they start to sell it's going to be enormous blowout sales and he's thinking that it's going to happen within just a few days. Lee said he would contact me personally when he gets word of the timing of the liquidation and when he does I'll send out a club wide e-mail letting everyone know! Krebsie

Krebsie, Thanks for keep up with them and letting us know. I've still got 3.16 on a giftcard I need to use up and my wife said to 'definitely go use it up'. But she added that it should'nt be on a new Shimano Curado or something like that.
I'm actually thinking cast iron cook gear. Les you might be able to snag some of that too!

I have access to my dad's collection of cast iron, which is quite large. I think i will focus more on fishing stuff. Although I might look at the tents. One of the small boat would be nice too.

Ran out to the Warehouse at lunch. Lots of folks - way more than I've ever seen during a lunch hour.
I didn't actually buy anything because I'm interesting in seeing where the prices go.
For those that have a relationship with the people that work there, have we explored the possibility of trying to get anything donated to the club? I'm just thinking that they will probably have some tying stuff that doesn't sell before they decide to close the doors. I'm wondering if they would be interested in donating that stuff to the club for future tying demos or whatever. Maybe they would have some rods/reels to donate for demo days/scout use as well?
Just thinking out loud....

Speaking of the Sportsman's Warehouse, I was there this morning buying some of the fly stuff at 20% off before Trent can buy it all at 50% off later. I have to admit I was embarrassed by what I saw there. I wonder what kind of "fetchin' up" some people have? I was waiting in line as a woman was spewing filthy language so raw I was embarrassed (and I was a sailor!). She was chewing some 20 year old clerk out, calling her every name in the book because she couldn't take back a bow that the woman had purchased yesterday (?) and was told she couldn't return it when she bought it - all sales are final. Well, apparently her husband/boyfriend told her it was the wrong one and didn't want THAT one. So, of course, it was the clerk's fault. The clerk was nearly in tears over this verbal smacking-around. I asked the lady to consider what she was saying and to please take her complaints to the manager. After the woman said some REALLY not nice things to me, she moved off looking to spread joy with the manager; I apologized to the clerk and said I was sorry she had to put up with that. The clerk said it's been like that for 2 weeks and she hates coming to work. Then she said, "I'm losing my job in a few weeks. Can't people see it's not my fault that this is happening?" I suspect as the prices drop it is going to get worse for them. Why do people have to act like that? Rhetorical question - it's just the way some people are wired, I guess. I'll bet that lady's momma wouldn't have been proud of her daughter if she'd heard that language. Wow! Pat

Good chance the woman didn't have much of a mother to guide her in life.

Don't even get me started with some of the things I see everyday in and out of the classroom. And the worst part of it is, only about 5% of the population are like that. It's their niche in life to be mean and disrespectful. And they know exactly how to make the other 95% feel as miserable as they are. I wish I could do more as a teacher to encourage them to behave appropriately.

In a way, I can't blame people for acting and talking as they do. Just watch any primetime drama (CSI, Cold Case, House, etc)...shows on the Cooking Channel (Hells Kitchen, etc). It's incredible the language that's become exceptionally accepted today. I was watching a cooking show where all the chefs are throwing around the 'f' bomb every other word. You know what? I could care LESS what happens to any of these people or their careers. If they can't show any respect to anyone else...
My kids are in HS marching band and most of we 'band parents' get down on the kids for language, usually to be told in return to %#$& off!
Don't get me wrong, there are some great parents and some great kids. I meet them every day in school, scouts, etc...but there's an incredible lack of 'parenting' anymore...
Being in radio and spending years answering request lines and such, there's always been a certain percentage of folks that believe they get their way if they just yell loud enough.
sad.
