Trent and Barry et al, I am all for the idea of a kids category and games. We could definitely still do this, the rules are not set in stone. Trent, if you would like to think of some kids categories and post them here, and maybe get some prizes, that would be fantastic! Barry, thank you for the info about the X-games. I actually have seen a competition very similar to what you described. The participants were casting a 5 weight rod, and everyone had only 2 consecutive chances to cast. I think this would be easy enough for us to do during the cookout. Do I have any volunteers to take charge of this competition?
Trent, there will be a largest fish award for each category. As for the smallest, well, you could do something for them if you wanted to. It will probably be me, so what do you have in mind?
The other games would be great at another event, maybe in August or September. Be thinking of some dates, times and locations so we could put this together. Certainly this is our club, I can't think of everything, nor do I want to be in charge of everything. But I will gladly help out with any ideas. Thank you for all of your great suggestions so far. This is Awesome!

Dustin-
my thoughts on the kids thing would be to wait and see how the tourney goes this year and then as it grows, assuming repeats in the future, we could bring the kids into it. I have no idea what club members have kids or if any of them fish. Maybe at some point we could do a tournament where club members team up with either their kids or community kids (scouts, boys/girls club, etc) and just make the focus on the kids for the day...something for down the road.

Dustin/Krebsie; You can put Trent and I down as a team for the extravaganza of fly fishing prowess on the 18th. I mean, not that WE'd have any (fly fishing prowess), but just being around you guys is inspiring. Trent MADE me say that! Pat

I have a son(in law) who is 38 and 6ft 11&1/2 inches tall, but he fly fishes......... thats about as close as I come. Unless transformers starts building rods then I have a grandson that might be interested for 5 to 10 mins.

Krebsie (and all),
It just so happens that in honor of this first fine fly flishing tournament, I thought it best to have at least one all-women team. So, Cathy Sleeth and I have teamed up and we are still trying to figure out our team name - one that will adequately reflect what will be our winning status!
Wet-n-Wild and Dead Last are two that have been suggested and summarily rejected. We'll keep working on it!

barryl; Did you mean "the Nile" or "denial?" Monica definitely decided that Trent and I were dead weight and is bringing in a ringer (who will only fish if the weather is good, or the birds are singing, or no one gives her casting instructions, etc.) to win this thing. Pat P.S. Monica, is your forum moniker troutcharmer or carpcuddler? I keep forgetting...

Boy and I thought Pat was the Jiminy Cricket of this site. Oh well everyone have fun off to the great hot south. Can't wait to here all the stories of the tournament.

I didn't know we were supposed to come up with team names.
Pat-
how to you feel about Lunker Landers or Pig Posse or The Leaders? I think we definitely need something that will strike fear into the hearts of the competition.
Monica-
does your teammate even know where her fishing gear is? I think the last I saw it, it was buried behind some old copies of All Hands.

I will continue to thank all for their kind and generous input on our team name. "The Cleopatras" is of interest and I believe barryl had it right in terms of ruling the Nile (and any other river or stream she chose!!!).
Yes, Trent, my partner knows where her gear is - used it this week in an excellent warm-up outing. And, as for your team name, you might want to consider a name reminiscent of Disney characters, like Swampy & Splashy or The Little Mermen.
And, Pat, I think everyone knows my moniker; it will even be more applicable after my next trout fishing venture to Utah. Although, I will have to say, the carp love me too!

Monica; Which moniker is that? I know which is the REAL moniker, remember? Not the self-awarded one, but the one AWARDED to you by the delightful camp manager/guide in TN. Don't worry though, no amount of money could induce me to devulge THAT delightful little charmer to this group! I mean, what kind of nonsense would ensue once they found out that you had been labeled "stinkbait" by this upstanding and quite accomplished fly fishing person. Oh, dear! NOW I've done it. I mentioned that which must not be mentioned and after I swore a blood oath to only whisper that word on my deathbed (which may be nearer than it was a couple of moments ago! ;D)! Trent, if its fear we're going for, why not the "Smallie Slayers?" Or, how about the "Mighty Marauding Men?" Or, the "Terrors of the Tippecanoe?" Ah, but, what the heck, I DO like understatement so Lunker Landers has some appeal! ;D Barryl, what do you mean "Jiminy Cricket?" Hey, I might be one of those! If you refer to my being a man of the cloth, please note that Friday is my day off... (and Monica is one of my favorite people on the planet to tease. Don't let the blaze in her eyes and the frothing of her mouth fool you. She just loves it. Try it!). Pat

Oh no you didn't - you let the S.B. slip. You are a dead man!
The Smallie Slayers has appeal, but does not accurately represent our catch and release ethos. The MMM reminds me too much of Robin Hood:Men in Tights or something from Monty Python. Neither of those are exactly fear inducing.
I think by Jiminy Cricket, he meant "one who runs around with dolls made of wood".
If as Monica suggests, we need to dip into the treasure trove of Disney, there is always Hercules and Prince Charming (you pick) or The Cracken and The Beast.
