The date has been set. I just talked with Patti Beasley from the Reel Club and we've set a date of Sat. May 30th. Mark your calendars now! This event was fantastic last year and I want it to be even better this year! I've posted details on the calendar also.
We will have breakfast and a fly-swap like we did last year. This year we are eating at Cracker Barrel since the service at Denny's was lousy last year.
Tie or Buy 10 - 12 of your favorite bluegill pattern to trade and you receive 10 - 12 different patterns from the others who choose to participate. This is a great way to share get to know each other and members of the other club. They are fantastic people!
Then, we will travel to Hawthorne Park for fabulous fly rodding for nice bluegill. There are two ponds from which to fish. One is very shallow with about 20 islands in the middle of it. The other is a deeper strip pit lined with trees and forest. Bank fishing is good, but a boat or watercraft of some type will help you reach better areas.
I hope each of you can participate!

Our anniversary is on the 31st, so this is the perfect way for us to celebrate! I'm assuming this is a family friendly event??? I'm sure Sophia (4 y.o.) will want to model her waders.

The fly swap with Reel Women Reel Men is a really cool event. We passed our fly boxes around the table and were welcome to take anything you wanted in exchange for something you've tied. Take one leave one, take two leave two. I came out with a box full of really nice flies. I even fished a few of them that day. So if your planning to attend this year just make a dozen or so of your favorite pattern and put it in a separate box that can be passed around and you'll end up with all kinds of stuff. If no one takes them all you'll have plenty to fish with that day. Krebsie

The RWRM folks are going to be PUMPED when they see MY flies in their box.
"I gave away a spun deer hair bass bug and in return got this pigeon feather lashed to a hook with monofilament. AWESOME!"

Remember, you can bring store bought flies to trade also, if you are too embarressed to trade your own. Although, I think a pigeon feather lashed to a hook will do just fine!

Man, what fun! Nothing beats getting together with other passionate flyfishers, trading flies, fishing together...the most fun you can have with waders on!

Les,
I can't answer your question specifically, but I would rather exchange and get a bunch of different kind of flies.
Tie up a mess of your soon-to-be-perfected pike fly. I've got a great pigeon feather on a hook to trade ya.

This is a bluegill outting and so the flies that we tied last year were all for targeting bluegill. However, you are certainly not limited to that. If you want to tie some larger flies, great, just remember you may not get too many pike flies in return for yours. Sorry, but really you want to be able to use the flies you get that day, on the water. That's what makes this event special.

Spoke with Patty Beasley from Reel Women Reel Men last Saturday and she's pretty excited about our club fishing with their club again. All you tiers, get busy with some of your favorites now and it won't be such a rush when it come time for the swap. And for those of you who don't tie, It's ok, you can purchase some or just don't take part in the swap part. Very informal and no pressure. That's at breakfast and then we go fishing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Krebsie
