They are rainbows and since I have never caught one from Fairfield I would be a poor source of advice. A brown pellet fly perhaps? I'll have to check and see if I have one of those ;D

OK gang the early forecast for the opener: Fr. night low of 28F with a 40% chance of precipitation. Sat. 30% chance of rain/snow mix and a high of 41F. Wind shifts form west Friday night to out of south west on Sat. light and veritable. High pressure to our north (Hudson Bay) and low pressure to our south west (north central Texas). For anyone brave enough to try the Wildcat will fall from Thursday night to about 4.5ft by Saturday. (bring your lead wading shoes) All in all we expect lots of blue gills and eh....trouts? With a good chance that Don W. will break the no trolling rules again.

Are kayaks or canoes allowed on those lakes?

Yes sir. There is no boat ramp you could back a trailer down but you can easily launch a canoe or kayak. You can use a trolling motor but no combustion engines allowed.

The trout can be caught on most any fly - Black wooly buggers work well, Elk hair caddis if they are coming up or emergers if not, Gary Krebs Poppers, beadhead prince nymphs or any beadhead, love John's suggestion about brown pellet flies, and maybe salmon egg flies as a dropper. Heck, you could probably throw BarryL in and catch something too!

So is BarryL a terrestrial? A popper?

A popper but only if you have a 65wt (tow truck) rod. If not I would eventually become a sub-merger. ....Also note that gas engines are not allowed, so kick tube users please no Mexican cuisine Friday night. ......That should slow down Trout King.

If you and Krebs stop for breakfast burritos I'm avoiding the end of the lake with the methane cloud!
Sunday morning J&C .......Strange unexplained fish kill at Fairfield Lakes, unknown pollutant suspected. May be the work of flatulent snowball throwing elves.
