My wife and I visited lake Webster on Saturday, our first time on this lake. Webster is noted as one of Indiana's premier Muskie lakes. Because of all the water South we decided this would be a good time to go north! Day started off around 6:30 am at the backwaters boat dock. Our intension's were for Bluegill first, then the 9wt with some Big flies for Muskie later. Landed 15 to 20 - 6" to 6 1/2"ers using my 1/4" white popper and My wife landed several as well on bee moth grubs. Lots of 2" to 4"ers but couldn't find any worth keeping. While fishing the lilly pads and boat docks up close a very large fish hit the top right behind the boat. Heart beat accelerated, eyes focused, mind racing, and I have a bluegill rod in hand? My wife hands me the 9wt with an 8" popper attached to some toothy critter bite tippet and says get up front and cast, I'll drive!! What a Woman!! We cast for about 10 minutes then something smashed my popper, just as I turned my head. Instead of strip-striking I lifted the rod and he got off. I gave the popper one more twitch and pow he hit again, about a 2 pound bass. Sorry to say he got off again, but I got a good look at him any way. That was it for the rest of the morning. Lots of people and boats, water in the main lake glass clear and tannin brown in the backwater area. Left Webster and went to Tippecanoe lake, double the amount of traffic and people. Drove home. Had a great day on the water with a fly rod in hand, the smell of fish on my jeans and a beautiful woman with me all day long!! Does it get any better than that?
