After the cheaters, I mean, er, Radio and Ray lit up the scales with the smallies on Wea, I've been hankering to give it a try.
Talked to the gentleman that owns the land around the access. I think I spent more time getting permission than actually fishing, but that's cool. He's a real salt of the earth kind of guy and the kind of guy you are glad is around to add flavor to the community.
Anyway, I didn't land a single smallie, but caught some sunfish, a rock bass, and a couple "poor man's rainbows" (the barking kind).
Others were catching a few smallies, so I think they are still in there, but maybe they are starting to stack up in any holes they can find. Based on the success of "those who fail to follow the rules", my expectations were that the smallies would be voluntarily jumping into my net, even before I had a fly on the water.
It did look like there were a few mayflies coming off the water. They looked to be a whitish color.
It was a nice evening, even if I wasn't landing them right and left. These warmer days and low, clear water should be lending themselves to some good fishing.

T- That IS somewhat suspicious, I mean, IF I were the kind to be suspicious. We have R & R come to the picnic spreading rumors of swarms of fish fighting over their flies and monsters with fins and all and then you, a man well known for his veracity and unbesmirtched character catches NO smallies at all? Hmmmm...? Far be it from me to suggest a club officer do a bit o' research to see where the discrepancy lies but this mystery must be solved! ARE there fish in Wea Creek? Did R & R REALLY fish there or are they trying to cover their tracks? Could it be that they really did the bulk of their fishing in a hatchery run? And, should their "win" hold up under this cloud of suspicion? Just kiddin'! Pat Trent - you caught a barking fish?

There is nothing like a day on the water, any water with fish in it.

Like I said in another post. Ray has a wooden carved smallmouth that is hard to tell it is no real.

Having once lived near the Wea and fished its waters often, I second what my father said.

Sadly, all I get when I read that is the faint ring of dueling banjos in my ears.
