Dustin and I drove up to Michigan City at 4:30am this morning and fished for most of the day. We saw some steelhead. I had one strike on an egg. Dustin had one strike but neither of us landed one. Dustin did catch a sucker so the day wasn't a total bust. The guy parked next to us caught several with a spinning rod using a red hook and a worm. He said these were small.

A word of caution when and if you make the journey up north. Don't forget the bug spray... I was wearing my rain jacket with the hood up, not because of rain, but because there were 12 billion mosquitoes armed and ready to carry me away. I made the mistake of leaving the car at 6:30 am without my jacket and by 7:30 the mosquitoes on my body were so thick, I couldn't see straight or concentrate. I believed I was about to be completely exsanguinated. There were smashed bug parts and blood all over my face and arms. We litterally had to quit fishing and go get some Deep Woods Off. It was horrible! Those little vampires were out all day long! Despite that, I had a great time fishing with John. We are definately going back!

Look at the size of this steelhead that came out of Trail Creel on 7/24/2009!

That fish is just slightly bigger than the sucker Dustin caught when you were up there!
BTW, I saw the time stamp on your post. I think the clock for the message board is off an hour. I think it is on central time which would mean you were posting a little before 5A. Were you still up from the night before or are you a masochist and actually get up that early?

Trent, I got up at 4 to meet Dustin at 6 for breakfast. We floated down the Tippy in my canoe and had a blast. Several moon eye shad and small mouth bass. Great day. Check out Dustin's car. We were a sight to see!

Silly me, I thought people put canoes on the top of their cars. Hope you didn't have to drive too far with that thing sticking out the back. That might be a fun set up to drive around Purdue's campus when classes are changing to see how many pedestrians you can take out going around corners. What were you catching them on? Looks like a ton of fun. Did Dustin divulge any secret honey holes?

Got the shad on dry flies. It was really cool the shad were sipping flies on the surface all around us but they were very picky about the fly we presented. Dub-ceiver caught several bass. I think I may have caught a bass on a popper but I'm not sure though. Lots of the water looked good today. We would take turns. One would steer and the other would fish while we floated along. Once we found a good spot we would drop anchor. I have never been there before.
