Well, the skunk is off for me for this season. I got out for a little bit Saturday afternoon and fished Deer Creek near Delphi. The water has a green stain to it, but wasn't muddy and was perfectly wadable.
I thought it was going to just be a nice afternoon out without any hookups until I was close to getting ready to go. A nice little smallie decided he liked the looks of my olive and white clouser minnow.
There were a couple of hatches going on that afternoon. I captured one of the flies, and after conferring with the FIL upon my return, we decided it was a stone fly. I didn't know we had stones here, but maybe I just never really paid much attention before. There were also some teeny, weenie flies hatching - BWO-esque, but I didn't see any fish rising to any of the flies on the water. Of course that doesn't mean they weren't keying into nymphs and emergers, but I only nymph fish when nothing else is working.
Let me just say, it felt REALLY nice to be out there and feel the fight on the other end of the line. It's going to be tough sitting inside on these nice days and not itch to be out there.

Trent, glad the skunk's off for you this spring!
Spent the weekend down at the lake and got the boat in. Spent Saturday and Sunday fishing every crook 'n cranny. Landed several cold and slow largemouth, one huge crappie (on a crankbait) and some gills. Some of the gills are on their beds already. Got NOTHING on topwater but all with slow deep crankbaits. Those fishes were chilly!!!

T- You sure had a great early spring day to get out and fish! I haven't hit any streams locally yet - and it's going to be tough to get out until after Easter (but I bet I get out anyway ). Pat

The SKUNK is back on. Went out over the weekend for a bit and got shut out PLUS I lost what had been my lucky clouser, so I was licking my wounds after that one. Not sure this cold snap is helping my cause much nor helping the water temps.

When Trent talks about losing his lucky Clouser, it's with genuine regret and mourning. Trent left his rod strung up for the past two weeks with that Clouser on the line. Not A Clouser, THAT Clouser. I'm not sure he had a moment of silence on that stream - but I'll bet he thought about it! Pat
