Ummm. yes. It's a secret, but you have to go early to beat the rush. shhhhh....A remarkable fishery both in the park and upstream and down. Sugar Creek in shades I believe is even better. Again, go early to be the crowds. Weekdays far from holidays are also great. There's often aluminum hatches on those stretches that put the fish down for hours. Plan carefully.

We've fished the access just below Turkey Run a few times. I have every intention of fishing through both Shades and TR this summer.
The nice weekend days do bring out the youth group canoe armadas. Maybe I need to be a teacher so I can get some of those fishing days on weekdays during the summer.

Gotta say it - it's one of my fave places to fish for Smallies in Indiana.
The aluminum hatch is amazing. It's so colorful and loud that you almost think you're at the mall. When the canoes/kayaks hatch, it's definitely early and late or the armada WILL run you down.

Shades has been the best for me. Largest smallie 23" grasshopper in July. Don't do the weekends during summer. September is good also. No canoes. To cold. I'll share my spots.

Can this stretch be waded or do you need a pontoon?

Don't have a pontoon or canoe so I would probably wade as well. When someone goes and wants some wading company, let me know!

Creek can be waded and I have found this to be the best way. A canoe can be used most of the time. I'm not sure about the pontoon. Have never used one but if you can canoe I suppose you can pontoon. Radio, I'll can the next time I go.

Gentlemen, let's try to make a day of it. You pick. I'll try to make it work. Weekends in March, April and May are often good. Less boat traffic. Wading works really well, unless creek is high. We can check stream flow before we leave. Maybe, last weekend in April or 1st weekend in May??? Always a possibility for a lunker! Bring the camera.

Who's in charge of shore lunch?

I'm not sure about the shore lunch thing, but a day on Sugar Creek in the spring when the leaves are bright green, and the air is warm and fragrant, and the fish have missed us . . . sounds perfect!
