Materials: Olive Grizzly Marabou, Olive Squirrel Dubbing, Micro Lead Eyes, any #10 standard length hook.
Start your base coat towards the back of this fly. Saves time.
Use 2 grizzly marabou feathers mated at the tips and then tie in at the bend of the hook, forming a tail. Tail should be about the length of the hook or a bit shorter. Cut off excess feather and then lay a base coat of thread up towards the eye position.
Attach lead eyes at about 1/3rd of the length of the shank back from the eye. Build a long Red beak in front of the eye then move your thread back to the base of the tail.
Next apply dubbing wax to the thread and then about 2 1/2" of squirrel dubbing to the thread. With your thumb and pointer finger spin the dubbing on the thread. Squirrel dubbing is difficult to dubb with because it doesn't want to twist together like the synthetics do. A little practice and you'll master it.
Wrap dubbing with a slight taper from the base of the tail to the back of the eye. You'll have to stop here and there to retwist the dubbing. Pull off excess dubb once your at the back of the eye. Move your thread in front of the lead eyes, whip finish and add a large drop of head cement.
This little fly can be modified in many ways, from no eyes to bead chain eyes to adding a collars to legs.... This fly is a fish catching machine. Catfish, Carp, Crappies, bluegill, Trout, Large and Small mouth bass, and even White Bass. Have fun and make sure to add a few of these to your arsenal!
