I think I can say that Teach,John and myself had a great experience (pun intended) in Indy. It was wonderful seeing smiles come to so many faces when they tried fly fishing for the first time. I have no idea how many people we had the pleasure to have helped but, we were busy just about all day. It was busy enough that we ended up staying about 2 hours after our sessions had ended. I'm not going to say the day wasn't long, it was, but we found it very rewarding. I'd like to thank Patti and the people from Reel Women, Reel Men. And our own DNR staff who did a great job keeping thing safe and moving. We need to get more of our members and their families to this event next year it has a little something for everyone. It is also an opportunity to form relationships with both like minded people and the hard working state entities that care for our natural resources.

So, what was the set up? Were people actually catching fish?

I love the look on the boy's face that is tying the fly.
What's up with the old school travel trailers?

I love the look on that kids face too. Very serious! I don't know why the teardrop trailers were there but I thought they were cool. We had fly casting and fishing right by the pond and fly tying in a covered structure up a hill. We were kind of secluded from the other aquatic venues in that you had to walk all the way around the pond to get to us. That may have reduced the amount of traffic but it picked up later in the day when the sun came out.

And yes some people did catch fish, even with everything that was going on at that pond. There was model boating (some of those things can scream!), bow fishing, spin casting and a lot of nervous ducks. (there was a group from Ducks Unlimited demonstrating call making) I can't start to tell you everything going on at the park but the people who came loved it. The kid with Dustin in the picture, and his father, spent quite a bit of their day at the fly fishing venue. You may be looking at the next "TROUT KING"

Camping is part the outdoors experience, thats why the teardrop campers were there. There is a gentleman in Lebanon that builds them. His prices are more than resonable, $5000 to $7000. I have seen these advertised in excess of $15,000. You can even get plans online and build your own.
I need to find a"Trixie's Fly Fishing School" sign to put in my tying room. Or better yet find Trixie.

As you can see a 6wt is not near enough rod ;D there was a lot of questions on spey rods by people. It would be great if Jordan would do a demonstration next year I'm sure it would be a big hit.

It was a great event indeed! Friday was designated student day and I really enjoyed working with the kids. We introduced them to fly casting, fly tying and discussed the importance of cleaning up our rivers and what we can do to be better anglers.
Thank-you Dustin, Barry and John for volunteering your time and for doing such a great job at the event. It really makes me proud to see ALL anglers come together from different organizations for the good of our sport. You guys are the best!

There are some other good signs if you back up to just the "Fishing" level. There's another one along the lines of Trixie, but I like the one that is "Classic Flies".
