Tom Moran didn't have a final number at the end of the evening, there were a few who overspend their budget and left IOU's.
The final tally looks to be between $1300 and $1500.

Man I would have spent more if I knew that was an option

Here's an idea to kick around...
Have any of you ever been to a pheasants forever banquet? I've never been to a quail unlimited, ducks unlimited, TU, or any other kind of banquet, but I would assume they all operate similarly.
I'm wondering if the next step to wratchet up the annual fall auction would be to go to a banquet kind of thing. We could sell tickets, serve a meal, and get sponsors from the community. I have no doubt it would be a LOT of work, but as the club grows, I think we would end up raising more money for conservation projects that way.
People would be more inclined to invite friends/spouses and it gives a greater opportunity for spreading a conservation message. We could also bring in a speaker that might be a draw as well.
I think you would want to do add things each year and as it grows keep adding.
Just an idea. Discuss amongst yourselves...

If you are talking about the newsletter post, that was technically from Friday. I try to space these things out so as not to overwhelm you.

If we had a speaker or a banquet, I would sugest moving the event to a Saturday and start around 5. I know we were the last people to leave MCL. They close at 8:30.

Saturdays in Oct. means watching the PU football schedule, just make sure it's not a home game day. Also if you are going after corporate sponsors most requests need to be presented no later than Feb. 1st to meet their budgets. My wife has been involved in many fund raisers through the hospitals. This is a great idea (Trent how do you do that with out hurting yourself?) it just means we need to start planing now.

Barry, you are right, you would want to be very careful on the timing.
Les, there would definitely have to be some thought given to the site and speaker.
It would probably make sense to actually add a board position that was the "Banquet Chairman" and that person would need a dedicated committee. If it got big, it would become too much to expect one person to handle.
We could get in touch with the guy who puts on the Pheasants Forever banquet and try to get some wisdom from him without having to learn the hard way.

Anyone who starts out "Barry you are right" is tops in my book! (it's a very small book........more like a sticky note) A chairperson is just the ticket, a lot of good idea's seem to come and go on this board just because no plan of action is initiated. That's not to say we do nothing,we accomplish a lot,we just need someone for projects like this one (that require long range commitment) to keep everyone abreast and on track.

Barry: your comment about the gap between "ideas" and "action" got me thinking. (Run away, run away!)
Anyway, I'm just wondering if you have any suggestions about keeping ideas out there and not letting them die before they've had their day in the sun. Generally speaking, I assume if I throw something out there and nobody responds, that there isn't any interest. That may not be the case, however. It could just be that people missed it or thought it was a decent idea, but didn't have anything specific to add, or any number of other reasons.

Great ideas! I'd like to suggest we move this idea to its own thread under an appropriate topic - we're nearly stealing this thread.

Pat - which idea? The banquet idea or the one about ideas getting lost?

Pat you bring up an excellent point . We all enjoy the free style of the boards ( as do most sites like this one) however good ideas get lost in the, shall we call it "run on threads". It would be nice if we had a way of administering and prioritizing when a thread moves from just information to ideas to a project. One thought comes to mind, a board secretary. This would need to be someone with good organizational skills who could repost the meat of the idea and bring it to the fore front. Just a note for us to remember this is our escape not our job, our passion more than our obligations be kind to all who give of their time.
