Dad and I fished Lake Waveland today and scored some nice catches. We arrived late for the Tabert crew, about 11:00 am or so... But by 12:30 we had more than enough bluegills to clean for the both of us. (about 30 or so keepers) We threw back some really big males (8"+) and lots of small ones. We even managed to catch a couple nice bass while fishing for the gills. It was really fun! Most of the bluegills were hitting Krebsie's 1/4" poppers tied on a #10 mustad streamer hook. Color didn't seem to matter, but dad was using yellow and I was using chartreuse. We were fishing in shallow water near shore, but not right next to the bank. I would say most of the fish we caught were between 20 and 60 feet from shore. The water was slightly dark, but that didn't stop the fish any. In fact, I think it was better because the fish were not very spooky. I caught several pretty close to the boat. Here are some pics of a few bass we caught. It was a great day to be on the water. The air temperature was cool, the winds were light and variable and the fish were eager to attack surface poppers. It just doesn't get any better than that! Good luck out there, it's summer and the bite is on! See you on the water.

Teach, looks like you and Ray had the time of your life. Thanks for sharing your pix. Haven't been to Waveland for a long time...used to camp there and got my first citation for fishing without a license there. Did you guys get sprinkled on at all?
I'll have to go try it out...once I get my pontoon!
thanks!

We didn't get any raindrops, although it looked threatening all afternoon.
RF - Sorry to hear you were caught by the fish police... I had a friend get caught when we were fishing together in college. I had a license, but he didn't. I told him before we went that I had never seen a C.O. where we were going. Not 15 min. after we got there, sure enough, a C.O. pulled up behind us. I felt terrible for my friend. I think it was like a $65 fine. I bought him a case of beer and a 5th of whiskey, we drank it and he forgave me. The next day he bought a license at walmart and we went fishing again. Let that be a warning to all of you.
I would highly recommend a trip to waveland. Let me know when you want to go, and I'll try to join you. Maybe a group of us could go?
