Took the mutt down to Fairfield tonight around eight for a walk. Seen at least twenty rises, most in the middle, but some could be reached from shore even with my casting abilities. Two bass fishermen with no catches and a few others trying on the west lake. Made only one lap and a couple trout suspended their selves in mid air long enough to flip me the fin. The Loon was there also, so that made two loons while I was present. One in the water and one on dry land. Nice evening, I think tomorrow the mutt is staying home.

Phish/others;
What are they coming up for? What's on the surface that they are feeding on?

Well they are insects more than likely, and i know little about hatches here in IN let alone Fairfield but...
Right now given the conditions, larger Chrinomids (midges), and or some species of Ephemeroptera's (may flies) and right now they could include: Quills, BWO's, or maybe Hedricksons, once again just going off my knowledge of possible hatches for other areas. Also i believe black caddis's could be hatching, as well as tiny black stones.
So after that B.S. i would say its a Midge (larger variety) or black stone or caddis (which are roughly the same size and color, #16 and black) The possible may's are tiny up to maybe a #16 (given the location)
For the money though, id play it safe and throw a #18-#14 Midge imitation, G. Gnat, or Adams, something like that, drop it with an emerger and you could be in business.
Saw a ton of small black stones on the MO in MI

Fished Fairfield Thursday night until dusk (almost got locked in, didnt realize what the frantic honking was for) I fished dries in hopes of a rise. I didnt see any actual bugs, but i fished a #16 CDC midge emerger, and got one rise which i missed. Saw a pack of cruising bass, and lots of other rises come dusk. Still no positive ID on the insects though...

Went back with the mutt leading the way. Brought along an ultralight spin cast in hopes of casting to a few fish. Did get some casts off, but with the pup it was hard to concentrate. Leash stuck in my pocket, one eye on the dog and the other looking for rises. Did see several fish rising and of course a couple fin flips in my direction. More fishermen out, but still seemed to be targeting other fish. Again, one Loon in the water and the other on shore. Did run into phishinincident on my way out. Had a short talk on what the fish maybe interested in. Fish were rising right in front of him so I moved on. Sorry incident, I should have mentioned about the lock out time. Did not see anyone with fish on a stringer.Seen several bass in the shallows and one at least 18". Will be over 20 the next time I see it. Everyone have a great Easter weekend and enjoy your families.
