PI,
I wish someone would. I would gladly buy from a shop that gives me a discount. I can get them on the web but not at flyshops it seems.
There's SO much chat on bulletin boards about how people should buy from and support their local shops but then, from my limited experience, local shops (all of the 20 some I've ever visited) charges msrp. Pay it or go away. I can usually find the same thing with no tax and no shipping on the web...sometimes saving me consideral money. Then the 'local shop' hates me cuz I don't buy from them.
I'll get off my soapbox now...

My other hobby deals with the same issue. The one local store that carries stuff sells it for $15 a box. I ordering the new stuff for $8.63 a box online. I have asked the manager about competing with online shops, but he says he can't.
So this buy local = expensive is not uncommon.

I hear what your saying. "Why didn't that guy buy it from me?" "If I didn't have it I could have ordered it."
Well, you usually have it faster if you go else where. A lot of times cheaper. How many times have you heard an exchange like that?
I remember going into a well known shop a couple of years ago(won't mention who) and they still had a discontinued St. Croix Pro Graphite for the original price. (Why won't anyone buy this?)
The small shop does need our support but I feel they also need to make themselves competative.
Enough of this soapbox garbage.
