As Krebsie lost all the fish in his much beloved and greatest pond in the universe, I was thinking of having a benefit event to help Krebsie restock. I'm thinking some snakeheads, gobies, didymo and zebra mussels. Cost should be minimal. Maybe some steelhead too but then again, they're not a native species.
...just a thought...

Hey You guys are all right! Normally I wouldn't even consider it, but any help I could get at this point would be tremendous. I have 2 daughters getting married within a year from each other. The first one is March 21, holy @#$% that's just 5 weeks away. The other next spring. Fish are kind of low on the totem pole at this point. Of course if you guys were to help out, that would mean you would obviously have fishing rights to it. And that's absolutely FINE with me. How ever and or what ever you decide to do, doesn't really matter, It's just the simple fact that you guys thought enough about me to even consider something like that. A heart felt THANK YOU to all of you. Krebsie

Krebsie,
Did you have your pond stocked from a hatchery? I'd be willing to pitch in a few bucks.
Would you want bluegill only, like what you had? Maybe a few bass? It's still your pond.

Krebs, What was the reason for the loss. Do we need to work on generating more oxygen, or a food source? My neighbor is wanting to rid his pond of some bass and bluegill and all his crappie. Lets talk.

I would certainly be willing to help in any way I can. I don't know much about stocking ponds, but I am always willing to learn.

My father and I are seasoned professionals at stocking ponds. Half the farm ponds in Benton Co. we fish have been stocked by my father and I at some point in time. We'll definitely help you recover from this loss. Bluegill only right? It's always fun to catch a bucket load of bluegill, and turn them loose into another pond.

Well Krebsie, looks like we got something great started. Some can help with finding the fish, others with the water conditions or whatever you need, some of us with some bucks. We can all add some sweat equity. Looks like we're all set. Just lead us in the right direction and it's a done deal. Would you expect anything less from the Tippecanoe Fly Fishers?

I pulled out the receipts from the original stocking and like everything else fish prices have nearly doubled in 4 years! The original stocking was 100 4" and 25 6" bluegill, 15lbs fathead minnows, 20 4" Redear. Seems that there was a ghost stocking of 7 large mouth bass one of which was about 4 or 5 pounds, and one 10 or 12 lb. channel cat, I put him in at about a 1/2 lb. My wife and I caught around 30 gills up in Michigan and when we got home they were all still alive, all around the 8" mark. They all went in the pond. After talking with the Biologist at the Jones fish Hatchery, sounds like my big mistake was my ability to estimate the # of fish in the pond. After talking with him sounds like this whole thing was my fault. Looking at the # of fish that would feed on the surface is about 1/4 of the population of actual fish, I was thinking maybe I was seeing 3/4. Well, not knowing how many fish were in the pond, I simply suffocated them all by not aerating the pond constantly! Up till this winter I always ran the airation during the winter just to keep the ice off and let sunlight in. But, had a neighbor suggest that that wasn't healthy for the fish because it would eliminate the thermocline layer and possible lead to a kill. OH how I wish I wouldn't have listened to him. He's a Professor of forestry, NOT Ichthyology!! Live and learn I guess, but man, Why do I always have to learn the hard way? Here is a list of fish that I'm going to restock from the hatchery 100 6"-8" $370.00 100 4"-6" $139.00 100 2"-4" $60.00 10lbs fathead minnows $92.00 total w/tax and del. $707.27
With this formula I can regain the adversity of sizes and leave room for bigger fish to be transplanted to the pond. Would also like to have 4 or 5 big (3 or 4lb)large mouth bass. Need 1 and only 1 channel cat, pond needs a janitor. Was wondering if donations could be given through the club and then be tax deductible for the members? Anybody know the answer to that? Well I'm not sure how to proceed with this project but just thought I would post my thoughts and see what you guys think. Thanks Krebsie

Is the club a 501(c)3 organization? If so, I believe donations could be tax deductable-I'm no tax lawyer.
However, first, since Krebsi has used his pond for the benefit of club activities and hosted groups like the Boy Scouts and such in the past I think it would be very appropriate for the club to pitch in some portion of the cost of replacement fish since we've received past and probably future benefits from the pond. Even if it's just a pledge to cover any costs that aren't covered by those who have said they would pitch in? I know this is a board decision, but think it should at least be discussed at a future board meeting and brought to the club?
Just my 2 cents.

How about FISH FRY! Krebs you might talk with Robert Lyons. He could have some connections and advise. Of course I would be willing to donate any fish that I catch from other ponds. If you kept fish alive from Michigan, maybe some from Terra Haute could make the trip home. The club is a 501(c)3 organization, but I am not sure if it can give to private individuals. Could open up a can of worms as other members have ponds also. I know my neighbor wants to thin out his pond.
