Just got a report from a friend of mine from Arkansas. His name is Bob Nunley, a bamboo rod maker from around Mountain Home, AR. Here's a snippet of a post he made on another forum that might help us see how bad they got hammered last week with the ice storm that swept through there:
"The entire area looks like a massive explosion hit. Trees are down EVERYWHERE. We had approximately, according to local officials, 2 inches of solid ice... not snow, not sleet, but ICE... clear, heavy ice. I've seen Oak Trees 18 inches in diameter that have snapped like toothpicks. I will probably lose most of the 22 Black Walnut trees in my yard. Thank goodness my house is OK, although it took me, my wife, kids, brother in law and my neices husband 2 1/2 days to cut our way out of our driveway to get to the road. Started Monday, finished this afternoon late. It was 375 feet if broken trees covered in ice. Not a few here and there, but literally THOUSANDS of trees broken and laying across my driveway.
It looks like we'll survive it well, but it will take awhile for electrical service to be restored to all in the area. I'll be shocked if my house has power any earlier than the middle of next week."
There are millions without electricity there and probably will be for another week in some areas - they definitely need our prayers.

Thanks for sharing. Ice is a scary thing. It could just as easily happen here. We will be lifting them up.

Wow. What a story. I can imagine how scary that was while the ice was falling and the trees were snapping - that is a very loud sound, as if the sky is literally falling. My prayers are with everyone in that region. Is there anything else we can do?

Monica;
I'm sure the Red Cross would take our donations as would various faith/denominational crisis agencies and service-based organizations.

My prayers for everyone down south. I have lots of great friends down in Kentucky and Tennessee and all are in the same boat...saying power my take 'weeks' to restore. Ice storms are devastating!
