This post may stretch the limits of even the general section, but given the collective expertise represented on the board, I thought I would throw it out there.
I have some things that need to be matted and framed and would like to do them myself if possible. I know you can buy the precut mattes, but not everything fits a precut.
So, short of buying a $100 worth of cutting and matting tools, can anybody think of a cheap and easy way to cut a beveled edge on matte board?

The tool i have used to matt things is a blade that slides along a tubular track and you can set the angle at which it cuts, this was at school so im sure it was really expensive....
Im sure you can rig something with a razor blade that protrudes from a flat surface at a 45* thats all you would need and a way to keep it cutting straight...
haha good luck
well also i was at miechals? craft store and i just so happened to have picked up a coupon for 50% off custom framing so that may help also

Jordan,
it's the whole "rigging" and "razor blade" combo that's a little scary. I think Hobby Lobby has a special on custom framing as well, but I have a number of projects that I would like to do ($$$). If it was just "one and done", it would be no problem. Multiple custom framing jobs, even at half off, are going to add up pretty quickly.
I think a T-square would work fine for a straight edge, just not sure how to get that razor to 45 degrees and not impale myself in the process.

Trent; You already know just the person with all the krafty equipment anyone would ever need. Give Deb H. a call; I'll bet she can help you do any matting project. Or, seeing all 10 thumbs in action, might well take over the project! Pat

I have a matte cutter at work. However I am in Phoenix till next Wed. and I am nont sure it does 45 bevels. i assume it would, but I have only used it to cut straight stuff.
Even with the discount at a craft store getting anything bigger the 8x10 is going to cost a bit. Unless the fram you pick is plain and simple, but what is the point in that?
