I chatted with the co owner of the place where I fish in MN. He said it was around -25. Plus the wind chill. So he threw a bit of water out of a glass off his deck and watched it instantly freeze. I am just glad I will be in Phoenix, AZ next week

That's ice fishin' for crappie weather! Got me a new auger two or three years ago and here it sits in the box. Not sure if we'll get four inches of clear ice outta this weather to go drop a line in a hole or not.

ps. Here's something fun for kids to do. Go outside and blow bubbles. They freeze and shatter when they hit the ground. Winter fun!

Yeah the last time I was up on Shaffer it had a couple inches, but that was around Christmas. Since it is pretty slow moving I don't imagine that it thawed too quickly. 20 years ago my dad and I used to ice fish on Knop. A few more days of this weather the Wildcat should be froze over completly.

I'd bet Rainybrook would be prime for icefishing early next week providing you had permission to fish it. Trying to think of other places...don't think they let you icefish Munger or Armstrong do they?

Jordan;
Ah to be young and, umm, er, adventurous! ;D
I don't mind the snow and ice. I DO mind -25! Wow. I'll leave 'em all to you at that temp.

Radio - What about Fairfiled lakes?

You may ice fish at Fairfield lakes, but it is difficult to find the fish since the lakes are so deep. I've been ice fishing there a few times with my father in years past, and we did a nice job of putting holes everywhere, but we didn't catch much if anything. We were just shooting in the dark. If you had some sonar equipment, that might be the best way to locate fish. No ice fishing at Armstrong or Munger parks. Too much liability for the city, I guess.
As I said in dad's b-day post, he's been ice fishing pretty regularly since Christmas. He's had no trouble finding solid ice. But Be Careful! I've fallen through ice twice in my life, and it's no fun!

Willow Sough for ice fishing. Froze solid. Steelhead at anytime. If you can not get out , you just sit around with buddies and talk at the local watering hole.

Krebs lake is now open to all TFF members who dare to drill. I'm guessing the ice to be somewhere in the 6" to 8" range so driving your truck out there might not be advisable but it will definitely hold anyone who dares brave these temps. Same rules, barb less hooks, release anything over 7" and keep enough for a meal or two or three. Have fun!! Krebsie Jordan the smile on your face says it all!!!! Awesome dude!

Krebsie, thanks man! May take you up on that just to break in my new auger. I'll have to bring hot coffee instead of the chocolate as I'm on a pretty strick diet...looking forward to a greatly leaner and sleeker Radio this year...doing pretty good at it so far too.
You have ice gear? Come join me!

Oh Teach, you mentioned my avatar. It's a cropped version of a poster available from Redington. Full view is one of the most coolest pix I've ever seen and the poster is hilarious..."The day you learned to cast was the day you learned to swear." I just loved the pic and cropped it. I can't use a camera worth a hoot but I'm KILLER at Photoshop! But here's what's special...I find my greatest enjoyment when I'm teaching fishing/flyfishing. NOTHING satisfies my soul like watching a kid catch a fish...
