Buried in one of the other threads is the beginning of a discussion on meeting frequency.
Thought I would start a discussion in its own thread.
It sounds like there are enough areas of interest and discussion items that would justify increasing the meeting frequency.
Certainly not trying to stick my nose where it doesn't belong, just throwing it out there to see how often people would be interested in getting together and what that would look like.

You might be right for the late Fall and Winter months, but I am not sure about the summer. I hate to say it, but I would rather be fishing with members then sitting in a meeting room talking about fishing with members. Maybe the warm month meetings could be someplace where we could actually fish.

Les;
I agree, I think fishing/fellowship should be the priority during the fishing months.

It is great to see the interest rise in the club. I think it would be a good idea to check with the president to see what the agenda is for the upcoming year. He might have scheduled things to do and booked certain people to talk to us. I certainly wouldn't want to take away from any hard work he has already done. I'm sure that Rick would be willing to let you chair a committee to help.

Good ideas... My thoughts on meeting frequency are these: 1. The board already meets on off months anyway so, why not have a regular meeting too? 2. If people don't want to come, no one is forcing them to come to another meeting. 3. Why not give others who are interested more opportunities to come, meet, learn, share, have fellowship and actually be a club. It's hard to get to know, become friends with, share valuable knowledge (secret fishing spots, etc.) with people you only see every other month. We are a club! Every other club I've been a part of meets much more frequently than every other month. If we don't meet in the summer, then let's have more outtings together as a club during the summer. I know we are all busy, but again, the club won't kick members out for not showing up to things. I'm not trying to take away anything that has already been set-up or arranged, only add to what we are doing. Conservation ideas, knot tying, steelhead classes, all these things require face to face contact. Our newest members have some great ideas and I don't want to wait a whole year before your ideas finally get addressed. Sorry if it sounds like I am on a soap box. Just my opinions, nothing more. Thank you for your time.

Meeting frequency was one of the items on a survey passed out last February.
I'm not against adding a meeting on the off month, we could focus on conservation issues or learning another new knot, or the lastest greatest gadgets and geegaws.
The main issue is as reelteacher pointed out, face to face contact.
This is something the board will take a look at.

This forum is a great place to discuss things and brain storm. I just want to be clear that this is what Trent and I are doing and NOT trying to make the prez or the board's job more difficult. As newcomer's we want to be active members of this club and that means pulling our own weight (and in my case, that's considerable )and offer input to assist our officers, but we are NOT trying to step on toes - or suggest that somehow TFF is lacking. One last thing I didn't mention in favor of having a monthly meeting. If the weather is bad, as was the case in Dec. for me, you have to wait 4 months between meetings if we only meet every other month. A monthly meeting would only delay visiting and fellowship until the next month. I heard that our last meeting wasn't very well attended because of bad weather, and our previous meeting, the auction, only drew a few more. Monthly meetings may help increase member attendance, especially if our members are able to take an active role in the meetings. If our members don't take ownership of the club, our attendance at a meeting monthly or every other month or even once a year will be low. Monthly meetings give more opportunities for more members to get invovled with new things. These meetings don't have to be all formal and uncomfortable. Our agenda doesn't have to be all planned out, where all our i's are dotted and the t's are crossed. I hope that we could all come together as friends and share what's been going on, and discuss personally the great ideas that are posted on this website. Adding another meeting will not require a ton of more work for the board members. On the contrary, I would hope that eventuallly, the other members would take an active role in meeting discussion and progression, and make it easier for the board to plan the year.
Thank you again for reading and trying to understand where I am coming from.

This is quite the topic, seems to have stirred some serious discussion. That, is a good thing! Just being able to voice opinions, without retribution, is a wonderful thing, and will ultimately help all of us to grow a better club. Dustin, I can see the passion you have for this club and your desire to do whats best and right for the overall well being of this club, and that is what an officer should be. Thanks Dude! After thinking about this and talking with several others I would have to agree with Dustin. I have also been in several leadership positions and in every case the programs that were the strongest were the ones that got people involved. When your involved, your committed and responsible for something. Then you tend to take ownership in what your doing. I don't think there's anyone who would mind attending one or two get togethers a month in the off season. I would love to be more involved at that time of year in a meeting or get together setting. On the other hand, when it's time to fish, what kind of fun is it to fish by yourself, Yea I know, but seriously when you fish with someone, especially a fellow club member, it's totally different. So a club meeting on the water is the solution for the on season! I really enjoy fishing with members, Dustin, Dave, Les, Scott, Bob... I have fished with these guys and several more and every trip is a memorable and enjoyable one. On the other hand I have been a part of this club for 2 years now and there are a lot of members who I don't even know there names. So for my 2 cents worth I figure that, hey, what can it hurt. If we were to start meeting once a month and it works out, then great, if not then stop. Pretty simple! Ok, I'll stop babbling now! Krebsie
