Hey: I came across this on another board and thought I would post it here. Albright is having a good sale and there may be something on there that you could use. Check it out: www.albrighttackle.com/index.htmlMy idea is that they have basic 5/6 weight 2 pc rods that normally retail for $69 70% off or about $21. They also have a basic reel that retails for $29 70% off or about $9. So, for $30, you could be into a rod/reel combo. No line or backing. I was thinking maybe the club could spring for some of these outfits to have available at educational events like the boy scouts, etc. What does anyone think of that idea?

I will also say that if people think this is a good idea, I will be happy to donate the equivalent amount of a rod/reel combo.
Somebody would just need to take this and run with it. I don't think I would have a chance to organize and pull this together before leaving town Saturday for the holiday. I don't know how long the sale runs or what kind of inventory they have on the items that we might want. Supposedly you can actually call and talk to real person too. How cool is that these days!

If this was something the club was interested in doing, I'd also chip in the equivalent amount for the rod/reel that Trent was mentioning.

The best backing and line deal I've found is Cabelas Prestige backing (on sale right now I believe) and Hook & Hackle Hy-Floater flylines, which I believe are really Courtland 444 Peach lines in a sage green. I own about 4-5 of them and are great flylines for about 30 per. For a low cost flyline I believe they're the best you can find.
I've got two Cabela outfits that I've put together for Scout instructing (both 5wts) and use that line/backing combo...cast pretty good.

RF:
so, does that mean you think it is a decent idea?
We'll definitely need to poke around for some good deal on lines/backing.

On Sierra Trading Post, there is a 5 or 6 wt Redington WF line for about $15. www.sierratradingpost.com/p/2249,1122R_Redington-Redfly-Fly-Line-Weight-Forward-Floating.html There was another less expensive Redington line on there for about $9, but you had to get either 4wt or 7wt.

I like the idea. This is something that i wouls assume would nedd to be brought up at a meeting. I am not sure if the board wouls have to approve it or not.
