So, are you asking for anything special for Christmas/Hannukah/Kwanzaa/Solstice/National Eggnog Day? holidayinsights.com/moreholidays/December/eggnogday.htmSince I'm a little bit hard to buy for, and maybe you are too, I have to be pretty specific with things on my list. I've got a few fishing things on my list this year, one or two hunting related items, maybe an art print or two. I really don't "need" any of it, but will certainly put to good use anything anyone, Santa included, decides to get me. How's the shopping going for the other peeps on your list? Unfortunately I have been unable to show much self restraint in buying for our 4 year old this year. She may be buried for days under a pile of gifts if we aren't careful. We'll have the St. Bernard on reserve just in case.

I asked for and I think I am getting a fly tying kit. Plus we have burned too many bags of popcorn in our microwave and are going to get that too.
I am hoping someone gets me wader hangers, because Sportsman's Warehouse never has them in stock.

Les, for wader hangers I use bungee cords hung on the roller tracks of my garage door. I'll float you some bungee cords if'n ya want.
The only thing I want this year for Christmas is a clue. That's right...some clue to what my wife would want for Christmas. Do you have a spouse that is impossible to figure out for gifts? Mine is. Her birthday is Thursday and with Christmas coming, I'm double clueless!
...watch your tongue Krebsie!

Oh yeah, I forgot that I want one of those snazzy faux racoon, Daniel Boone hats that phishphinder was sporting at the tying session. RF, maybe your wife would be interested in one of those??? You definitely don't want to be in the doghouse: view.break.com/610154#TellAFriendRF - what does your wife like??? Jewelry??? Have you checked out Overstock.com? Is she outdoorsy at all??? Maybe something from sierratradingpost.com? If you are like me, you do as much online shopping as humanly possible.

Well . . . In addition to world peace and clean streams, I am absolutely coveting a bamboo rod. Pat has a number of them and they are beautiful works of art, they feel like silk to the touch and, according to Pat, when you catch a fish with bamboo, you can feel the life of the fish pulsing through the rod. Of course, my skill set is lacking to cast with one very well, but I am sooooo willing to learn! Since I don't have a short, light weight rod, that may be the way for me to start. My husband's name is Tom and anyone / everyone is encouraged to let him know about the benefit and need for a variety of different types and sizes of fly rods!

TC: stealthfully pass along this site to Tom: www.sweetgrassrods.com/I think the waiting list is long and distinguished, so you'll have time to master your casting with Pat's rods before yours is done.

Troutcharmer,
Maybe you need to set a goal like mine when it comes to the number of fly rods you need.
My wife asked one day "How many fishing rods do you need?", and my response was I want to be like my good firend Bill Murray. I want a pile of rods so big that you can't tell when I add another to the pile.
When it comes to bambo, I have 2 myself. One was purchased on Ebay. It is a 6' 4wt small stream rod. Great for the small trout streams is Wisconsin. The second I purchased at an antique store for $35 and had it reconditioned. That one is an 8' 6", three piece 5 wt. Talk about heavy.

Wow Rick. Getting a bamboo for $35 sounds amazing - even if you had to spend a little on reconditioning.
And, I like your goal. I think it is quite worthy!
Thanks for the tip Trent - I haven't given the site to Tom yet, but I'm sure I'll figure out some covert way for him to access it!

Radioflyer. Buy your sweetheart something that you know she will hate, as long as it is something she can't kill you with, then after she takes it back she will let you know from that day forward what she wants. My wife gives me catalogs with the pictures circled. Can't miss. By the way, know one really knows what women want, even women.

Christmas list? Hmmm...well, I have one or two things on it. What I do to be helpful to my family is, during the year when I see a book I want or a piece of gear I don't need but want anyway, I add it on a list and give the list to the family about October. Then they lose it and get me what they think I want anyway - and they always hit it right on the head. But I have to confess I pretty much have everything I want, a strong faith in a God that never lets me down, a family I adore and a few wonderful friends - and, when you add all that up, you're pretty rich no matter what toys you get for Christmas - and I'm guessing I'll get a few. Pat P.S. BTW, Trent, the Sweetgrass waiting list is about a year - and thank you for generously offering my rods to Monica - who has already cast/fished several of them. You are generous to a fault man!

Pat,
Well let me just say thank you to both you and Trent for offering continued use and practice with your bamboo rods while I am so patiently waiting for one of my own. Your generous nature, Pat, must be rubbing off on Trent, OR Trent is just naturally generous as well. Either way, it seems like everyone is a winner here - you and Trent get the joy of giving (or lending in this case) and I get the joy of sharing in your joy! It really doesn't get much better than that, does it?

You know, it seems that whatever the time of year, I have found that the majority of fly fishers and most fishermen in general don't mind sharing. As long as it isn't their favorite honey hole.

Pat:
just doing my part to further your reputation as one who gives 'til it hurts.
Monica:
No problem. Always happy to lend out Pat's stuff. The nice thing for me is that since I don't really have the kind of gear that people covet, I don't get very many requests to try it out.
PP: You are absolutely correct that most fly fishermen (and probably fishermen in general) are more than happy to help you out if they can. As an aside, I will say that my idea of stream etiquette does not always seem to match up with others, but different (casting) strokes for different folks I suppose.
