Hello everyone.
My name is Monica Arrowsmith and I just joined this Board and am writing to say hello. I have been fly fishing (if you count from the time I first held a fly rod) about 6 months. I am friends with Pat and Trent, and Pat is the one who really got me started. And, now, I am hooked!
I had the opportunity to fish the PM with Pat and Trent and we all fished on the Au Sable together too. My other great non-local fishing experience was this past summer in Colorado. I had the opportunity to fish the Frasier River and the Colorado.
My family thinks I'm crazy and none of them (husband, 2 kids) fish. But I imagine those on this Board may be able to appreciate my growing obsession.
I plan on coming to the Christmas meeting and I attended the auction - where I picked up some beautiful streamers.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to being involved with the Tippy Fly Fishers!

Monica Welcome! And it's pretty cool to have another lady on board. We have another young lady who is a beginner at fly tying and is doing a remarkable job. Would like to invite you to join us at the Sportsmans Warehouse for the tying classes on the first Thursday of each month at 6:30pm, except for Jan and I think were doing it the second Thurs. Even if you don't tie yet its a great opportunity to learn, even for the "Teachers". Krebsie

What! She found my sanctuary of solace and has invaded!!! Next time someone sees Monica in person, ask her about the large mouth she caught on the Tippy and the subsequent ear shattering howl. I wasn't there personally, but from what I'm told, the locals were concerned that their civil defense sirens might have been malfunctioning. Rumor has it that Purdue's Earth and Atmospheric Science department also got a strange reading at that same time on some of their monitoring equipment. Coincidence, I think not! Welcome, Monica.

Thank you Kresbie for your welcome. I WAS wondering whether were were any other women associated with the Tippy Fly Fishers. I've been to one fly tying class and enjoyed it, so I will definitely come again.
And, as for Trent's comments about some apparent expressive behavior upon catching a beautiful, large mouth on the Tippy . . . well he exaggerates a bit (but not much!). It was surprising and spectacular and exhilarating all at the same time - how can you not shout with glee? (I do thank you for your welcome Trent).

Welcome aboard Monica. Yes there are other women in the club. Some fish and others do not, but attend the meetings. We have an outing twice a year at a members lake and his friend (woman) fishes and is a member too. It will be certainly on next years calender. Hope to one day share some water together. See you at the next meeting.

welcome!
Well, there goes the board! Trent, did you say she HAS a large mouth or CAUGHT a largemouth? It wasn't very clear. If it was catching the largemouth (a sterling example at about 8"); I was there, on the scene when it happened. I thought she'd had a stroke or I had and just was hearing a high-pitched shrieking sound before I passed out.
Being the shrewd fellow that I am, I quickly ascertained that it wasn't me, and out of concern for a brother, er, sister fly-fisher, I went charging down stream, pushing a wave in front of me that was nearly swamping the houses along the stream. When I got close enough to her, I saw her dancing around in the stream (St. Vitus Dance?), mumbling incoherently and waving what I assumed was a large wet, wiggling, streamer. When she saw me, she wanted me to take a picture. I couldn't figure out why she wanted me to take a picture of her streamer, but I'm an accomodating fellow so I approached. When I got close enough, I mean REALLY close, I saw it was little, tiny largemouth - and was prepared to chastise her for using bait on a fly rod - but then I figured out that she'd CAUGHT it.
Anyway, ladies and gentlemen of the board, life will certainly pep with Monica on the board!
Seriously though, she is passionate about fly fishing, works VERY hard at it and has just about as much fun as you can have - and she's great to fish with. She's got a ways to go but Trent and I are working very hard to get her up to speed to the point where an 8" fish doesn't make her crazy. I don't even want to be around when she catches one over 12"! ;D
Great to have you on the board, pledgie...
Pat P.S. Now that Monica's on here, maybe I can get my wife to join.

To all my NEW friends on this Board: You may notice from time to time that Pat and Trent have a slight tendency to give me a little grief every now and then. I'm not really sure why this is, but I suspect it is because, as most fly fishers are, I am a very good sport (and I enjoy a good laugh every now and then)! Pat is right that my joy in catching my very first largemouth was one that I celebrated with one woo-hoo or so and a little dance. EVERY fish I catch makes me happy and worthy of some celebration. I do take issue with the reference that an 8" largemouth is "tiny;" I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder, eh? Anyway, I will certainly keep everyone posted on my catches, so when I do (and I'm sure I will) catch one that is 12 inches or greater, EVERYONE can share in the excitement! Thanks for your welcome phishphinder and I look forward to joining all of you on future outings. And Pat, it is great to be on the board (thank you) even if it is within the context of my fledgling pledge-like status. Monica, aka fishcharmer

Monica;
When you do catch a 12" fish, and if determination and pure force of will has any bearing you certainly will, I don't think you'll have to worry about letting people know. When people hear what they think is the tornado siren going off and realize that it is not the first saturday nor is there inclement weather - I think they'll HEAR that and know that you caught one!
"Fishcharmer?" Oh, dear Lord! Next Trent will sign off as the "Fishwhisperer!"

Monica,
Welcome to the Tippecanoe FlyFishers. It's great to see someone new to the sport have such an intrest.
About the 8" largemouth, ask Trent and Flyfishingpastor where their fish are. Sounds like you may have the catch of day.
I remember the popper you tied at Sportsman's. Fantastic job.
We do have family rates on dues so maybe we can get your husband and kids "converted" also.

Rick: as for my fish, there seems to be some sort of cosmic injustice surrounding my camera's mechanical equipment at the times when I have a fish in hand or on the line. That injustice usually manifests itself with the camera being at home on the kitchen counter just out of reach of me on the stream, the batteries have failed, I have recently dropped it in the water and it fried, or as the case was recently with my cell phone, I wet waded with it in my shorts pocket. Let's just say I can confirm that electronics and water are a bad combo. Luckily, I do occasionally have an eye witness to catching the odd fish or three and Pat would never lie...he's a pastor you know. I have noticed, however, that Pat seems to prefer biblical units of measure when refering to the size of his fish. A fish that is two Tefachim long sounds really good until you look it up and realize it's about 7 inches. Pat, I see you have a McManus signature line on your posts. Did you see the news that he was recently released from Outdoor Life/Field and Stream after 40 years of writing a column for them? Budget cuts. Sad news for the sporting community. T-

Monica, Go to the photo gallery and click on casting clinic. You will see the big bass that Dustin is holding. There were several others the same size or larger caught on that day. You can be the next. This all happens in May. It will be posted and e-mailed to all.

Welcome to the boards from the board admininstrator and web guru.
While my wife has only used a fly rod once, thanks to krebsie, she does fish with me. She really doesn't enjoy fishing though. She enjoys catching.
If you read through the boards you can find all sizes of fish stories out there along with some good advice.
Enjoy the boards and if the harassment gets too out of line drop me a message and I will make the appropriate adjustments.
Again welcome and I hope you enjoy the time and information your find here.

Thanks Rick and Les for welcoming me too! It's great to find additional people who love our sport.
I haven't taken any of the comments as harassing - they are all in good, clean fun and ALWAYS make me laugh. My good pals, Pat and Trent, really like to kid me, but it is really, as it turns out, not only because they love me, but ALSO because . . . well, I'm not sure whey else; that's enough. Well, maybe it's also because Trent really likes a good-bye hug (a ritual for us) at the end of long day on the stream. Ask him about it.
Good fishing news for me - I am going to fish the Elk River in Tennessee in the beginning of January. I think we should all expect a catch that may be trophy for me! I will certainly keep the Board updated.
