On Saturday, April 14th we will leave the Menards parking lot at Klondike Road and Hwy 52 at 5:30 and heading up Cowles Bog and Bailey Beach to fish for carp. I would suggest that you bring a backpack to carry waders and boots, a 7-9 wt rod, water, your lunch, etc. It is a 45-60 minute hike through the bog and dunes to get to the beach so be prepared. Last month both John and I caught carp and made it into the 20" club.
Please sign up on the forum so I know who to expect at Menards.
As always, we hope the weather cooperates with us. If you can't make it this time, there is another trip to Bailey Beach scheduled for April 28th.

Gotta keep mama happy. She doesn't like to hike and fish? It could be like walking on the beach and then laying in the sun and reading a book. You then could run on over to the outlets in Michigan City. Just trying to give some ideas. Don't tell her my name and address, I want to live. LOL

Poor college student reporting in, I would like to attend but I don't have waders, being Lake Michigan I'm assuming its quite cold so I won't want to be swimming. So here goes nothing, anybody have a pair of waders I could borrow that day?? I'll gladly tie up some flies for ya or pay a little to borrow em for the day

Wes,
I might have you covered. I had to buy wading shoes and waders to outfit the family for fishing in the Smokies.
Will you be at tying on Thursday night?
I can bring the gear then for you to try on.
BTW, I'm the Gary that fished with you at Willow Slough. Hope you have better luck at Bailey Beach!
No money necessary, though I might consider a few flies.

Bailey Beach is a warm water discharge so usually it is warm water you wade into as you try the outlet to the lake. Granted you get blasted with cold water sometimes and that is a bit chilly, if you know what I mean. Glad Gary can hook you up with waders and boots. I also have a second set if Gary forgets them on Thursday. The weather calls for thunderstorms on Saturday so we might have to play it by ear. I am usually willing to fish in any kind of weather but a 45 minute hike in the rain would be a bit much. Keep your fingers crossed.

5:30 came awfully early this morning and after tearing a calf muscle on Friday I seriously thought about canceling, but "it's fishing before pain!" so Wes and I made the hike through Cowles Bog to Bailey Beach. The going was VERY slow. It took us 80 minutes as I hobbled along. Wes is amazingly patient. We finally started fishing about 9:30am EST. Within the first half hour, I hooked up a 32" carp and a 12" smallie, but nothing after that - no Grand Slam this trip. Wes worked the discharge area hard but was humbled by it as is often the case out there. Even though the smoke stack was pumping out white smoke - warm water was no where to be found. We were fortunate because the weather held and we didn't get rained on while we were out there. Hopefully, on the 28th it will be sunny and warm and the fish will be biting hard. So here's a look at the fish for the day. Check out the Hoover on this guy! And then, of course, the little smallie.
