So it turned out that John, Jeremy, and I were able to fish the ditch. The term "elusive" steelhead proved true to form on Saturday. We started fishing about 9:30 and left by 2:00 central time without as much as a viable hookup. The fishing was tough to say the least. The ice formed readily on our guides and made it darn near impossible to get a good cast let alone a drag free drift. We gave it our all, despite the 19 degree weather that greeted us. Hot Hands helped us feel our fingertips. But the day was windless and the temperature rose to about 25 or so. The floor of the ditch is pretty slippery and the water was awfully chilly. As I followed John back across the ditch after fishing the Salt, I lost my footing and landed on my butt in the icy water. Funny how difficult it is to get your footing once neopreme waders begin to float in the water. After a couple of superlatives I got my footing back and stood up. Pretty close after this Jeremy followed suit and declared that he hoped his cell phone would still work. About 5 minutes later I slipped again - d**n that ditch. So it looks like I am well on my way to breaking last years record for water falls. It is time for me to wear TWO wading belts!

Hearing this story is more fun than seeing pixs of fish. Next time someone needs to have the camera on the ready. Tippecanoe Flyfishers funniest videos. We could make millions just off of trout king. Well a day on the water is better than not. I know you had a good time.

My first instinct when Jeremy had a hard time getting up the slippery bank was to get a video of it. I promised I wouldn't post it but I might show it to Dave.

I haven't been on the boards for a while but let me recap this thread. It's butt a** cold when you go steelhead fishing. Don can't keep from baptizing himself no matter what water he is on despite the fact that he's perpetually sick (mental state has been in question for some time) and remains confused about where he is.................................................................good to see somethings never change! P.S. And yes it's sounds like fun to all of us...................so what does that say about the mental state of fly fishers in general?
