Question for all who are planning on attending the Tying session at Sportsman's in Dec. I need to know what level of skill you have as far as spinning deer hair? Rate yourself on a scale from 1 to 10. (1) being "I've never done it", (5) "I've done it but have a bit of trouble" (10) I'm good enough to spin, stack and marble and I tie my own deer hair flies, and there good enough to sell. I'm trying to make our time at the meeting as productive as possible. So an honest answer here will help me decide what to do first. Thanks Krebsie

I would say a '4'. I love to tie with deerhair and fish the flies I tie. But the fish all say, "hey, there's a clump of deerhair...". They never bite it. So help me Obi Wan Krebsie...you're my only hope.

Krebsie,
I have spun deer hair in tying class and that's about the extent of spinning. I have tied only a couple of flies using deer hair. They are Dave's Hoppers and Muddler Minnows. I stacked the hair instead of spinning it and they look awful. I call them purpose tied cripples.
I'd rate myself at about a 3.

You didn't offer a negative number option. I will mostly observe, so don't worry about me.

So help me Obi Wan Krebsie...you're my only hope. Clear you mind and let the force guide you. I always thought that wookie hair tended to work better then deer hair, but wookie hair is very tough to find. it is even tough to find then the elusive chartreuse white tail.

I invited a Purdue student to come tonight named Jordan. He said he has a lot of projects and school work this week, but was going to try to make it. I haven't met him in person yet, just emailed about fishing. If he makes it, be sure to welcome him.

I'll try to remember my camera. Since I'm just planning on watching mostly, I should have a good vantage point to take some pics.

Les, I did remember the camera (it was about a 50% shot that I would) and took some pics of the event last night. How can I get them to you after I get them off the camera? T-

Krebsie,
Thank You Thank You Thank You...excellent tie-in last night. I learned a bunch and I truely appreciate your bringing materials and the knowledge you share so freely. More importantly though, thanks for the passion you put into this. The hour with you was worth more than you'll ever know. I feel that way whether Rick or Dustin or whoever teaches as well...great great great! Thanks again!
Thanks!

I agree, last night was great! Thank You Krebsie! You are a gifted teacher and your enthusiasm is contageous! I'm looking forward to more of your deer hair knowledge next month as we try to stack and clump and dot and pepper and anything else you can think of.
