Introducing the Clouser DeMuddler (I hope no one has come up with this already or I'm going to look like a major dork). I tied this up yesterday and am hoping to try it out for largemouths (or anything else that will hit it). It's tied on a size 2 straight eye mustad saltwater hook and it's not dressed too heavy, but not too sparsely either. In the future, I'm going to try to dress it a bit heavier to really push more water and create more commotion in the water for larger bass.
Anyhow, here is the recipe if anyone is interested...
Hook: Size 2 Saltwater Mustad straight eye or equivalent (could go much larger or smaller)
Thread: Uni 8/0 in white
Tail: 4 to 6 saddles or schlappen tied concave side inwards so as not to flare out during the retrieve and also the inner pair left slightly longer than the rest
In addition to the hackles, a few strands of krystal flash (pearl in this case)
Body: Ice dub (UV Pearl for this one); The body is short (approximately half of the hook shank length).
Rib: Small flat silver holo tinsel
Wing: 2-3 Clumps of white bucktail kept just shorter than the tail, pull out any super long or short strands, but DO NOT STACK the hair!
Between the clumps, a few more strands of the pearl krystal flash are added.
On top of the white bucktail, add a small clump of a darker colored bucktail (blue in this case, but other great combos would be green, brown, black, red, even chartreuse would be good to try) to imitate the darker top portion of a baitfish.
To get the proper profile, I feel that each clump should be just shorter than the one tied in previously.
Head: The head is basically a muddler head (I used three clumps of white deer hair for this one. You can trim it short and clean or could leave it a little longer for a larger profile.
