Hi everyone,
Just wanted to let everyone know what we will be tying for November.
Since colder weather is here, midges will start being more effective. So that is what we will be tying.
Be prepared for some small flies. The largest we will be tying is a size 18.
The patterns we will tye are from the book "Midge Magic". It was written by Don Holbrook and Ed Koch. It is published by Stackpole and can be orderd online of through Boarders for about $30. A very interesting read.
Black tying thread will be used on all flies and you may want to bring a pair of needle nose pliers. That will be explained when we start tying.
Hope to see ya at Sportsmans on Nov. 6th.

Rick I had the opportunity to teach a fly fishing class at Purdue a couple weeks ago. Several of the people were very excited to know about our tying at the Sportsman and I expect we will see at least 2 if not more. I think it would be great if we could be ready to tie some basic flies ie woolie bugger, or maybe the partridge & orange, or something easy just in case these first timers show up. I will try to get in touch with some of them to see if they are still interested. May need a couple extra vices to. Krebsie

Krebsie,
The midges we will be tying are very simple. Other then being small, they are a good fly to start with.
I will bring some extra materials for a Partridge and Orange and possibly a Wooly Bugger. I also have a couple of extra vises in case.

Hey thanks a bunch, I'm not a midge guy so I'm not familiar with the patterns but I trust you guys. I've E-mailed a few of the people but haven't heard anything back. Hopefully they will just show up.

Midges are awesome! They work when nothing else will! I caught these trout on a size 20 red brassie. I love them! I've been using them successfully for the past 9 years. I have my best luck with them suspended about 5 feet below an indicator with a small piece of split shot about 4 inches above the fly. Bluegill go crazy over these in the middle of winter and early spring. These rainbow trout were caught last week in Missouri at Montauk State Park. It was great fishing! I highly recommend!

See you on Thursday... I'll bring all my junk...including extra vises and materials.
Enjoy Wednesday, Get out and fish! It could be the last day of nice weather for a long while.
I'm meeting a guy from the NRCS about digging my pond! Hopefully it will hold water!

Dang it! Missed the November Tye-in! Won't miss December though. My apologies for being soooo busy this summer/fall. It's not as much the flies as it's missing my friends!

On the board calendar, it shows a tying session this coming Saturday (11/22). Is that an error?

I believe that was origanally put on the calander just has an activity to try and get people together since the weather is getting colder and fishing would be more difficult.
The calander was put together before we had the monthly session setup with Sportsman's.
As far as our normal tying session, this is something different.
If some one wants to get something setup, fell free to run with it.
