Bought one of these flies at the Indiana on the fly show and this is my first attempt to replicate it. 6/0 Mustad and the fly is around 13" long.

Mine has been sitting in front of me at my desk since the show. The drag on this thing will be amazing. Kinda wondering if my 9wgt will even throw it.

Hey John remember the trick that guy showed to make a clean head without the big material hump was to tie your peacock hearl 3/4 of the way back so some of it stuck forward toward the eye of the hook. Then tie the part sticking forward right behind the hook eye this gives a frame for the epoxy to form a smooth head over the hump and makes a cone.

I do remember that Barry and if you look closely in the picture there is a small ramp of peacock herl. It was tough to keep the size of the head down as the materials got stacked on there. I have not epoxied these yet but I will let you know how it goes.

Yes I see that now, hope the head forms OK. I think using the octopus hook makes for a shorter hook shaft so the head doesn't elongate. Just spit balling.
