John Clanton invited me to go with him on a morning trip to the Dowagiac River, fish the morning, then be home in time for the auction. Got there before the sun was up and headed down the river, wading. The Dowagiac is a beautiful river, cold and fast. Didn't take long and John put me on a salmon tailing in the riffles. I made several casts then got a strike, the fish ate my leader! Broke me off like someone with a straight razor. We went down a couple more riffles and John hooked up with a large fish that was, well on his way to becoming fertilizer! John called him a Zombie! John landed the fish and pushed him back in the water with his boot. As we were looking at this fish another fish swam right up to the same spot and John graciously gave me the shot. I flipped out the fly just above the fish and as the fly drifted over him he came up and ate it! Couple minutes later, Pictures! My shoulders are 20" wide and the fish is a bit wider than me. Not a big Salmon by any means but a Salmon none the less! Thanks John for a very memorable trip!

Congrats Gary. It was good to fish with you and I'm looking forward to the next trip!
Too bad you lost your glasses shortly after that picture.
