As some of you know Don Werden, Don Connally Greg Montalvo and myself spent Wed Thurs and Fri on the White River in Mountain Home Arkansas. Don and Greg have fished the Rim Shoals area many times before. After being invited I realized that Rim Shoals is just a short trip up from some friends of mine, Miles and Michelle Riley, who run a fishing camp right at the confluence of the Buffalo and the White Rivers. We decided to rent a cabin from Miles and Michelle "Rileys Station". Their web site is www.rileysstation@centurytel.net Perfect choice, the price was right and the hospitality was top notch. Not to mention the scenery and the proximity to the water. Only problem was that the channel to the white river runs directly down the bank of their property. That means you need a boat to go anywhere. Solved that problem, rented one of their boats! After talking to Miles and picking his brain a bit we decided to go up to Buffalo shoals and try our hand at the elusive rainbow trout on the first morning. The water was very low and very cold, air temp was quite crisp, but we were finally fishing!!
Almost immediately, I think it was Greg, tagged the first fish of the trip and the rest of the trip was just a repeat of the first couple casts. One fish after another, after another, after another... ;D ;D ;D All four of us caught so many fish that we can only make a guess at how many we caught. Our collective number for the 3 days fishing was, without a doubt, over 400 fish. No kidding! Most of the fish were in the 11" to 13" range, with lots in the 14"and 15" range and a few in the 16" range. After having such good luck on the bottom of the first shoal we decided to fish it again the second day and it was a repeat of the first. We went to Rim Shoals on the morning of the 3rd day, by my mistake, then ended up back at our own little piece of heaven at Buffalo Shoals.
Just to finish out the trip Don Werden and I fished around the dock for maybe 25 minutes to end the trip and we caught 6 right at the cabin. On the last cast of the trip Don said lets call it a trip, so as I reeled my line on to the reel, Bam, caught another one. It's been a long time sense I've gotten tired of catching fish, or maybe that wasn't me but my arm, wrist and shoulder!!
This trip was a one in a life time kind of trip. The scenery, the fishing, the excitement, the adventure and above all the Friendship of 3 great fishermen.
Hopefully Don Werden and Don Connally will add their spin on this thread so I'm gona leave some room for them and not tell all the stories. I'll post a few of the many pictures once my wife gets back from Oregon with the cord to the camera.
Great to be home but I'm ready to go fishing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
