The Tippy is very wadeable right now. The water is low and clear. I don't have a thermometer, so can't report on water temp.
Chad from Wildcat Creek Outfitters sent out an email the other day saying that the Tippy and Sugar are "on fire". From my experience last night, I don't think I would quite say it was "on fire", but there were fish to be had. I don't think they were coming any easier than any other time, though.
That stream is an enigma to me. It sort of fits the definition of "the fish are where you find them". The smallies just seemed to be in the river channel and weren't particularly tied to structure or changes in depth. It makes it hard to know how to fish and what to fish. It was trial and error to see what would work. I would normally expect top water to be great in those conditions, but I wasn't having great luck with poppers or divers. I suspect if you went out today, they might be deadly, who knows? At least it keeps you guessing and doesn't get boring, as if fishing could be boring.
That front came through yesterday, so I'm wondering if that might have put the fish off a little bit???

The Band Director at Jeff HS, Tom Barker, is a newbie flyfisher and caught four smallmouth on the tippy this past weekend...first time he's caught ANYthing on the longrod. Told me all about it last night and was like watching an 8yr old kid on Christmas morning! Fun to watch a guy my age suddenly discover what life's all about!!!
Got some damage down at the lake (Rocky Fork in Parke Co) so I'll be heading down there with my chainsaw this weekend instead of the Tippy. Dangit!!!!

Cool deal about Tom.
Are you wooing him into the greatest club on Earth or has he already seen the light and joined up?

Dad and I floated the upper section of the Tippy today above Lake Shafer. I wouldn't say it was on fire, but dad did land a very nice bass on a popper. I even caught a pike early this morning. Dad caught two fish and I caught about 7 including the pike. I would say it was S L O W... However, the trip was beautiful. We didn't see any other anglers on the section we floated. Peace and Quiet and very relaxing. Unfortunately, my summer is over. I head back to school tomorrow for meetings and red tape before kids show up on Monday. I Love my Job! Here are some pics of our catch today. Dad proves once again that he is the greatest fisherman who lives! This is a giant bass, caught on a top water popper. Here is another nice fish he caught. Here is a picture of my hammer handle. It destroyed a deer hair popper. I was lucky to land this fish as I was only using 8 lb test mono.

Them are some nice fish. Landing the pike with 8# test should be no problem. Try using 4#.

Ray comes through again. That is indeed a nice bass.
I have read that the Tippy is a decent place to catch northerns but have never had contact with any there. Would you say the fish you caught is indicative of the size of northerns that are in the river or are there some that are much bigger?
Also, have you had more contact with northerns in the upper section or the lower section? Are they coming out of Lake Shafer to spawn or hang out for the summer or are these fish in the river year round?

U know that SM that Ray has, sure looks like many others that he is always holding up. Could it be that it is really as wooden carving that he holds at different angles.
