Water temperature below Oakdale dam today 3/7/09 was 38 degrees. 2200 cfs. Dad caught a nice walleye about 9:00 am. Cloudy, light rain and mist. No other fish caught or seen. Still a little early. With warmer weather this week, next weekend should be better.
Water temps. in the high 40's to mid- 50s are best for white bass success.
If you go, please take a thermometer and post the information here. Try to us all informed.

I was up there WED 4-29 couple guys couple boats no one killing them, water was 63* which i thought was warmer than i would have guessed. Swinging flies on my spey rod i caught 2 threadfin shad, which to my amazement ate the fly, i didnt know any species of shad were targetable. There were fish busting everywhere as i was leaving at dusk, i could imagine the fish will be showing up very soon.
Anyone want to head up there this weekend or next week, i can fish saturday, tuesday, wed.... let me know if anyone would like to go

FYI Stopped by the Oakdale dam yesterday after work for about an hour. Talked to the gentleman at the bait shop about the signs at the dam that say NO Trespassing beyond this point for boats. He said that the signs were a suggestion by some attorney for NIPSCO and were not going to be enforced by the DNR, and besides NIPSCO can't regulate public waters! He got a little upset about it and said, you just go ahead and fish where you want! There were boats up by the dam in the "restricted area" and they were catching white bass one right after another. I managed to catch a really nice smallie and about a 4 pound stripe bass. Wasn't a wiper it was a pure stripe bass. Got a picture on the cell phone but don't have a clue how to get it to this page! I don't think the white bass run is in full swing yet but it's coming! The fellers in the boat were using live bait and bobbers, but they were catching a lot of fish just in the hour I was there!
