Okay...got some of the new Gorilla stuff and tied a couple that I threw away after playing around with the stuff. The learning curve is pretty sharp but BOY does this stuff WORK!!!
Floats like a cork and works great for ant bodies just like the guy in the video does. Starts setting in about 60 and once past the tacky point (3-4 minutes) won't stick to your fingers...but it's very unforgiving. Like working with a super-pliable styrofoam. I've lots of tricks to learn with this stuff.
I'll tie some ants and bring them to the outing. Fun stuff!

I'll keep posting on these cuz they're really neat I think... rf ps: this dang camera DOES have a macro but I'll be dogged if I cain't figure it out. Cain't find my directions either. Cwap...I'll keep working with it....

Krebsie, They're super easy to do but you have to work quick with the glue. Nice thing is that it doesn't take much so my $5 bottle of glue will last a couple years probably. You do need a rotating fly dryer. I made a super cheap foam wheel and use put it on my rod drying motor (either 7 or 11 rpm). I Time them with basketball games.
1) dab in the back bead. 2) watch basketball game 3) dab on the front bead. 4) watch the next basketball game 5) take off, color with marker and wrap black hackle.
They take a couple/three hours to complete but they float SO good when on the surface. Once totally wet they're kind of neutrally boyant. Of course I'm using a heavier hook than I should for ants. More to learn!

RF; Those flies look pretty darned cool! You'd better hurry and get your supply done for the year - you're running out of basketball games to time 'em with! I forgot to ask you if you had any with you at the kick-off on Saturday. I'd like to see 'em up close. I think there is a LOT of potential with these. Pat

FFP, I think they'll be killer bluegill flies. I'll thow em with my 4wt using probably a 6x leader. I'll tie some more this week and give you some...heck I give away more flies than I'd ever use anyway. Caught nothing this weekend but had a GREAT time sitting around the picnic table eatin' donuts, drinkin' coffee and talking flyfishing with some great friends!!!
rf
...oh, and the basketball games? I'll probably start using baseball games though those take longer. I can probably do 5 innings/4innings or something like that...

I tried a couple of those ants today on size 8, and they look cool! I am having to improvise and spin them in my fingers for a few minutes, but it works. i have grizzly hachel, so could I color it with a marker once it's palmerd? Tough stuff to work with, but it's really fun!

I have made gg ants for over a yr now. Don't mix the glue w water first. This cuts Down your working time. Instead place dabs of glue on your hooks already stuck on your drying wheel. Mist them with a fine spray of water and turn the motor on. In a few minutes you will have your ant bodies...
