Spent the afternoon tying flies with Trent. I was tying wooly buggers (just fillin' the box) and Trent was playing around with everything. Had a great time, learned more about tying, hopefully got a little bit better. A very enjoyable winter afternoon. I'd rather be fishing, but that's not an option right now. But, I'll tell ya, much as I hate to brag on that feller, for no longer than Trent's been tying, he's got a great eye for proportion and does a great job. I was pretty impressed. PLEASE don't tell him I said that! Pat

I will say that messing around with different materials and fly sizes has helped my basic understanding of how flies are constructed and different uses for materials, etc. Seeing the step by step instructions (like those people have posted on this site and available elsewhere) has really helped to see the start to finish.
I read on another board a quote contributed to AK Best that he doesn't truly understand a pattern until he has tied a hundred dozen of them. I get bored doing two of the same ones in a row!
It's going to be interesting this summer to see which of the flies actually fish and which ones are "tried and died".
