Getting ready for a few days on the salt water I called my friend (yes pilot I have friends) Capt. Terry Lamielle in Grant FL and he turned me on to what he says is the hottest fly for him this year. And he said not only for salt but for freshwater big bass and bream (bluegills to us Yanks). And what do you know it comes to us from our friends at River Road Creations riverroadcreations.com/stealth.htm.If you go to the site look at "Kent Edmonds foam popper/diver Stealth Bomber" Now for those of you who have unlimited income like say, Old Doc W or media mogul RF, you can buy the cutter kit for a mere sixty bucks. Or you can do what I did and make a trace pattern. The largest size cutter is 3" long X 1" wide at the top and 3/8" wide at the bottom. With this you can make a trace pattern in what ever size you want. I cut mine out of a Dixie plate to make it sturdy.
The example I'm showing here is for salt so no leg gs are needed but Terry stated he did add them for bass and bluegill. He also said what seems to make this fly so deadly is the bubble trail it leaves when you strip it.
I made my stencil.
trace and cut my foam
Layered white buck tail first then Krystal pearl flash then contrasting color here yellow last tie in your pearl estaz or tinsel chenille.
hold your foam so that where the pattern narrows is right behind the hook eye then tie in at hook bend over the tail. Advance your thread to mid point on the hook shaft. Palmer the chenille to this point tie down then tie down foam. advance thread and chenille to behind the hook eye tie down and then tie down foam. Cross over the top of the foam back to the mid point bring back section of foam from hook bend forward and tie into mid point be sure to leave a loop in the foam.
tie in some flashabou fold the front of foam back and tie in at mid point trim flashabou to about the hook bend whip finish right over mid point your done.
Depending on how you strip this fly the action is amazing. Good fishing barryl
Sorry this was tie on a 0/1 steel
