Hey Rstaight and or Radio,
I just bought a sage xi2 13 weight blank for an amazingly low price and now I have to build the thing. This rod will be for big saltwater fish. What guides and reel seat would you recommend for the saltwater environment? I thought about single foot titanium guides but I don't see any big rods with single foot guides. Would you put a fore grip on it?
Thanks, Jc

Sounds like a pool cue!
Single foot or double foot guides is personal prefrence. I like single foot guides but you will find someone who swears by double foot guides. And everyone will have a valid argument.
Reel seats are typically anodized aluminum for salt water and heavy fresh water use.
A 13 wt rod is going to wear on you during the day (refer to my pool cue comment). I'm guessing you have a 9ft blank. You could get buy without the for grip but it may be a good addition. This way you could use it as a short switch rod and use spey casting techniques. This may be a blessing at the end of the day.
Check web sites such Mudhole, Cabelas, and Hook and Hackle for components and catalogs. My advice is not to second guess the experts that put these catalogs together. They may more then willing to help with your questions through email or phone calls.

...what Rick said.
I prefer dbl foot on anything over 6wt. (See, Rick warned you about those who prefer something else.) I do prefer single foot for 5wt and under though.
In guides and tiptop, I would see what Sage puts on that blank (factory built rod) and stick close to that though you can skimp on reelseat and grip if you'd like. Not sure what brand/style Sage uses for those on the xi2.
xi2's are on clearance right now through some shops. If I had the bucks I'd pick one up in a 7wt! Hint...Santa?...ya listenin? Glad you got it for a great price. I got a great deal on an SLT blank once but had to send it back cuz my wife got ticked.

Sage uses Hopkins and Holloway guides. I have the single foot guides but I can always return them. I picked up the new blank for $200 on ebay. I was looking at pictures of the 13 wgt and it does not have a fore grip but rather one very large grip. I'm looking at spey grips now.
