Sorry, I have never used any type of ink or paint on a rod. I have seen where paint has been used on some cheap commercial rods for decorative purposes. Example: Instead of using the gold metallic thread on the end of your guide wraps like you did Dustin, they would use a gold metallic paint.

Dustin, The rod looks great! When did you say I can try it out?

Dad and I were able to go fishing this evening and I was able to try out my new rod. There is only one thing I can say about catching fish on a rod that you made... IT IS SWEET!!! Like I said, I'm hooked! I will never buy a pre-made rod again. I think I'm going to sell all my other rods... well, maybe in a year or two.
The Cabela's Rod finish is incredible stuff. It goes on smooth and dries crystal clear, I can't believe I made this rod. It really does look mostly professional. The ink ran a little bit, but it adds to the character of the homemade quality.

Would you believe Dustin tried to give me his new rod! I told him I was just joshing him in my posts. I told him he has to keep his first hand made rod, it really is sweet though. I'm getting him a sock and tube to put it in.
