Trout and I have a strained relationship. They ignore me or follow my flies and get my hopes up only to turn away. Acetylcholine and I had a day in New Jersey to kill so we went to Ken Lockwood Gorge and fished the south branch of the Raritan river. Absolutely beautiful place but I'm frustrated with trout fishing. About ready to give up or bring explosives next time. Acetylcholine with his first brook trout on a fly rod! Congratulations! The only fish that was caught for 5.5 hours of fishing. A big pool the locals nicknamed the meathole. Several miles of this. Beautiful isn't it.

J.C. did you inhale or exhale when you set your hook? ;D Trout fishing can be very frustrating at times, but I have learned, like most things, the more you do it the better you become. I have also learned a little humility and asking the local anglers or shops what's hot helps a lot.

I have asked th locals and bought flies from the local fly shop. Lost a dozen flies from the local fly shop at $2 a pop. Fell out of my fly vest. My roll casting is much better than last year and I kept a tight line the whole time. I need someone to show me how it's done.

Wow...I just saw this post. I used to live in Jersey. Infact, I could see the KLG from my front porch, and literally grew up fishing that section EVERY day. If you ever head back, I can toss you some advice
