This fly was developed by Kelly Galloup and is basically two articulated Zoo Cougars, with only marabou and flank for the body.
I tied these on TMC 7999’s its your regular up eyed salmon hook in #4, there isn’t a reason for that I just have lots of those hooks, they’re sharp and strong and I don’t mind clipping one because well, I have a bunch. A shorter straight eyed streamer hook would be prime though. First you take your marabou and basically just get it on the hook not trying to win a beauty contest, I usually put a plume under the hook and then over the shank. You’ll then get a nice mallard flank to top the fly just as in a ZC, the perfect feather is rather tough to find. Whip that off and take it from the vise get some PP doubled and looped over the eye slide a bead on it and set it down.
Next take another hook get it in the vise and put a nice thread base on it, and with these I attach them so when the first hook is cut the bead will just fit past the end of the cut shank, and I usually try to utilize all of the flat of the shank. Secure it well, its not necessary to glue it or anything, I have never had an articulated fly pull out.
Next work back up the shank and again just get the marabou on the hook, one plume on top one plume on the bottom.
When its all on just like before try and find that pristine flank to top the fly, add some flash. I love Polar Flash, it sparkles and reflects light at every angle.
With the remaining shank spin a nice “FAT HEAD” out of deer belly fur, cut the bottom completely flat, and try and get the top fat and well rounded into the collar of tips. And its done!
Crazy action in the water, it looks really crappy when its wet and out of the water but, the fish cant see it then anyways. One of the more popular colors is an all yellow one, which ill toss more or less only for trout, but the white one im guessing is going to be quite versatile.
