Crappies are starting to bite at Raccoon lake. Late morning early afternoon, 8 to 15' deep on live bait. Water 3 to 4' high, chocolate brown and lots of floating debris in the water. Search the drop offs, nothing in the shallow cover yet.

Oh, and Krebsie...I read on other bulletin boards where snook fishers are loving to use the new short Sage Smallmouth and Largemouth rods for fishing salt. So there you go...just $395 at a flyshop near you!

She bought a Ford Escort. It's a little SUV but it really handled the boat well. She has never been able or willing to back the boat anywhere. I had her back it down the driveway yesterday the I told her to back it into the garage. That's kind of tuff even for me, she did it on the first try!! Got to love a woman who can back up your boat!! Next is trying to get her to at least TRY the fly rod. It' funny you should mention that rod, I just got off the phone with Barry, the guy I fish with in Fl. He just bought one, and loves it. I have another wedding to pay for next year so there won't be anything like that in my future!! Krebsie

so you use it to ESCAPE to your favorite fishing hole with your new borrowed rod that you got for your son-in-law for a wedding present. Sounds simple to me. Let RF and myself take care of you.

Spent the weekend down at Raccoon Lake working on my Sisters place. Dad and I got out on the lake around 8:00pm Sat. to do some night fishing. Waaaay to many boaters on the water to fish during the day. The lake is about 14' above summer pool and there is a lot of trash floating although the water is reasonably clear. Any how we ended up with a limit of White bass all in the 13" to 15" and several nice crappies, and made it in by 1:30am. Went out Sun. night and did a repeat only the bite was quite a bit later. Fishing under a halogen light with large minnows and about 20 to 30' deep. Yea I know we didn't use a fly rod but at least we got to go catching!!!!!!!!!! Krebsie

Just got back from my cabin down in Parke Co. It's on Rocky Fork, small private lake just south of Raccoon. Though it was windy I did flyfish the entire time and caught lots of things on lots of flies...caught LM on clousers with a sinktip, caught crappie on a bass popper and small pumpkinseeds on small woolies. Great week!
I envy you Krebsie catching whites at Raccoon. I don't want to hassle pulling the boat out/put in/take out/put in...

Did some fly casting on Raccoon lake Fri evening. You notice I didn't say fishing. After dodging the forth or fifth ocean liner and the mosquito like jet skies that seemed to be like where Dustin and Jcpilot were fishing we finally found a cove we could actually cast in. Then the sun decided that in an attempt to melt me and my fly line it could help any fish that was stupid enough to come within 20' of the surface to eat my fly. So therefore after almost complete dehydration and exhaustion we decided to leave the chaos and go sit in the comfort of my sisters air conditioned cabin! Whew. It was still fun to be out there, and I got my wife to drive the boat for the first time!! Krebsie
