Krebsie (or anyone else that might know):
we were talking on Saturday about the mylar bodies for zonkers. You were saying that you need to put something in the mylar tubing for a body shape.
I'm wondering if you could just use a paperclip?
What do you think?

I use lead wire, it keeps them right side up, but it's highly flexible, meaning it can be damaged while fishing and so on.

Trent You can buy, at any hardware store, aluminum tape. It is used for sealing duct work, duct tape doesn't work very well. It's a bit salty but it's what works best for shaping bodies. Simply cut a piece of tape the length of the body you desire, peal off the paper and fold it over the top of the hook and stick the two sticky sides together on the underside of the hook. Then trim to shape. Slide your tubing over the tape and tie in the tail and tubing, cut off your thread and start again at the eye. Pull the tubing over the tape shaped body and tie off at the head and presto. Have fun Krebsie

Krebsie, For the LIFE of me I've never figured out how to tie mylar body flies! Thanks for sharing the info but I DO learn from watching so you'll have to oblige me with a demo sometime at the tying desk. Thanks for the tips!

Would you have to slide the tubing OVER the shank or could you tie it in on each end and accomplish the same thing?
Yes, demonstrations are always the best!
Is there a craft store or hardware store version of mylar cord?

I picked up some lead tape at the Warehouse. I'm assuming this will do the same thing as the aluminum, or would you still recommend the aluminum?

didn't know they even made lead tape! But assuming you want your fly to sink it makes since to me to use lead tape. Normal mode is Aluminum tape! One fast sink One medium sink! Let me know how it works, might have to get me some of that lead tape! Krebsie

Krebsie: I'll trade you some lead tape for some of that hard mason mono (or whatever you call it) and maybe some of that braided stuff Jordan was using on those articulated flies (if you have some). I'm just trying to acquire any and every material under the sun on the off chance I may come across a recipe in 20 years that needs some.
