Does anyone cut their own zonker strips?
I bought a white rabbit hide at H.L. to do that very thing, but am wondering if anybody has any tricks of the trade to recommend.
I'm also a little bit confused as to what the difference is between a zonker and a cross cut zonker and why I would want one over the other.
Thoughts?
Modified:
I did a little reading up on the cross cut vs. regular, so I think I've got that figured out now.

I have cut my own strips from a rabbit hide and found out that it is more difficult than it looks. I tried cutting the hide as it was on a board on on the floor, but I ended up cutting some of the fur off as I sliced through the skin and cut into the board. The best thing to do is hang the hide as you want to cut it, vertically if you want the zonker style or horizontally if you want the crosscut. Then take an exacto knife and cut the strips pulling downward from the skin side. I have the most difficulty keeping the strips an even width. You almost need a jig like a bread block or something. Although, you can make your strips as wide or as thin as you want. Try using a ruler and a marker to draw lines on the hide, then follow the lines with your knife. That helps, but it is still very tricky. Good Luck!

The absolute perfect way to cut your own zonker strips! Use your scissors, start at the top left side, if they are zonker, top right if they are cross cut. With a sliding/cuttion motion of your scissors cut open the bag! HA HA HA HA Krebsie

You can get a pelt from Bass Pro that aready has the zonkers started. You just need to finish the cut.
The difference between a zonker and a cross cut is the direction the fur lays. Zonkers are used for tails and can be used for bodies. The cross cuts are for bodies. The cross cut wraps around and lays on the hook shank so much better.

PI:
you got it. I'm thinking the pelt ought to produce more than enough to share.
