I just set up a reel over the weekend and the line has a loop that I guess is supposed to be an easy/quick change kind of thing for changing out a leader.
So, if I just have a regular old leader to finish the set up, how do I tie it on the loop?

Trent,
You tie a Perfection loop in the butt section of the leader. I believe you can find instructions on how to tie this knot on FLYANGLERSONLINE.COM. Or you can bring it with you Thursday to the fly tying and I would be glad to show you.
If you can't wait, you can also use a double surgeons loop. But the leader won't hang straight.
Once you use a loop to loop connection you may not want to go back to connecting the leader with a nail knot. I use loop connections on everything. I even use them to attach bite leaders on my spinning tackle in saltwater.

Trent....what Rick said...Perfection Loop. Dave taught me how to quickly tie one of those years ago and I teach that method to my Scouts. Once you learn it you can do it blindfolded...which is how people think I flyfish sometimes...
