As always not extreme specifics unless you want me to know Just mostly generals.. I have heard and may be looking for confirmation that the following places have some decent pike fishing: The Kankakee in the "back waters" Where is that? The upper Tippy? and thats it...haha Pike season some what starts before everything else at ice-off so just looking to get a head start, if anyone wants to go to their good spot id be more than happy to tag along with boat, flies, gear...GPS ;D Thanks guys

Hey Jordan, I've fished for pike in IN. on the fly, but I've never caught these fish in Indiana. I have caught them like crazy in Minnesota and Canada, but they are more abundant than bluegill up there. I know where there are pike, but they always seem to elude me. Maybe we could help each other.
Here are a few places I know that you are referring too, plus 1 more.
In LaSalle FWA, on US 41, there are several great looking backwaters of the Kankakee. One of which is called Black Oak Bayou, is touted as very promising. In fact, we talked to several other anglers who had caught pike there previously. Although, dad and I caught only bass and bluegill after we fished for pike all morning with no luck. Probably weren't holding our mouth right or something.
The upper Tippy from near Winamac up to and above the Tippecanoe River State Park is supposed to be full of nice river pike, although, I have never fished this area personally. I know a guy from the reelwomen-reelmen club in Indy who fishes this regularly, he grew up there and his parents still live there. He says there are nice smallies and pike all through that section. I've seen actual photos of the pike he has caught, and while they aren't huge, they are decent 20 - 25 inch fish. Hammerhandles. I have been wanting to fish this area badly, and will definitely be driving up there this year some time.
The other area to mention is Willow Slough FWA. My father caught a 36" pike there last year on a bee-moth fishing for bluegill last spring! He is so Lucky! We went back later and didn't catch a single pike. But that's been my luck with those dang fish. They are never around when I am, or I'm not using the right flies or whatever.
I hope this information helps. Unfortunately, I cannot testify to actually catching any pike in Indiana on the fly.

Though I haven't had the oppourtunity to fish for Pike, (that's why I originally bought my 9 wt.) I have heard that the Iroquios in Rensselear is good in March.
The only access I have been told about is at the fairgrounds.

I LOVE Willow Slough! Let me know if'n you'se guys go and I'll merrily go along! What a great place to fish. I take my Boyscouts fishing up there all the time and teach a lot of flyrodding to them.
FYI. The Northwest Indiana Steelheaders Spring Fever Show is this weekend at the Porter County Expo Center at the Porter Co. Fairgrounds. I go every year...going on Sunday this year.

Oh, Willow Sough is on my list for this year. Keep a post on when someone heads over. Need to get a convoy going.
