I haven't fished the area, but I have heard where the Wildcat runs into the Wabash is good.
I used to catch alot of carp in the headwaters of Brookville Lake. The easiest place to get to is to go through Whitewater Memorial State Park and follow the main drive all the way through.
It has been a number of years since I have fished it and it was before I was into fly fishing.

I've certainly seen them on the Wildcat, and some good sized ones too; but it's such small water that it's hard to get any place close - even to cast to 'em. I've seen some beasts in there.
Actually came across a guy bowfishing for 'em on the Wildcat, he was dragging a half dozen really nice ones behind him on a string. I asked him what he was going to do with them and he just shrugged. I'm not trying to start anything, but I have trouble justifying killing things just to kill them. I have hunted and fished all my life so I am not against responsible, legal use of game animals. Kill them, eat them, stuff them, feed 'em to your mountain lion, mount 'em on your van, okay by me, but just to kill them and let them rot seems wrong. You DON'T have to agree with me. I'm only speaking for myself here. I just don't understand that.
Anyway, I've certainly seen 'em on the wildcat and other area streams. Never been able to catch one. But I'd LOVE to do so. Trent and I have talked about a Michigan run someday just to catch some.

There are Carp all over the Lafayette area. The Wabash is loaded with carp! The Tippy, Wilcat creek, even park ponds have nice carp in them. I'd be happy to show you a few places on a map where I go, or better yet, I could take you there myself.

I would be willing to give it a try. I have seen them spawning in the mud on shaffer.
What flies do you generally use?

This weekend I will try to get a few tied and photographed. They are pretty simple. I use clouser swimming nymphs, caddis larva, and bead head prince nymphs primarily for carp. Although, I've caught them on big streamers, poppers and deer hair bugs while fishing for bass. There's nothing a carp won't eat when the mood hits him. Granted, you don't catch them everyday on those things.
Right before they spawn or after their spawn, they will eat quite often as the warming water turns on their metabolism. Oh boy, I can't wait 'til spring! There is a great place right below Norway Dam on the Tippy that is usually loaded with nice carp. I'd be willing to get a group together and go there! Bring your 8 or 9 weight rods, with at least 100 yards of backing!

I have caught most of mine on crayfish patterns a few larger nymphs smaller clouser minnow, and some sculpin imitations...
Pretty much where i fish it has to be heavy they will chase down anything that is drug across the bottom.

I'm convinced Jordan must be a significant stockholder in Simms.

I have fished the Mississinawae spillway in Kokomo several times, and I have seen several huge carp and asian carp. I was usuing a nemph under a 1/2 inch wide orange strike indicator and a 12 inch carp juped out of the water and inhaled it! I didn't have a hook in it, but i might try it again if I get a heavier rod, I only have a 4 and 6 weights. The spillway feeds the wabash, so there are definatly tons of carp in the Wabash.
