So towards the end of the expo yesterday I stepped out of my fly tying comfort zone and tied a recipe I found on the net. I will post the adress for the site tomorrow. My first thoughts were this fly shouldn't be too bad, all I have to do is follow the directions. If I run into problems some one from the club will be able to lend there experience and say "You aren't doing this part right. This is how it is done." But all I asked said they have never tied a fly like that, but gave me some thoughts on how it might be done. So the first one didn't turn out to great, but everone says it will catch fish. The second version I took in everyone's advice. It turned out better, but still not quite how I would have liked and not how the picture on the site looked. So this eveing after work and some time on the treadmill (New Year resolution) I thought about the instructions some more. So I organized my fly tying materials that I picked up from the expo and gave it one more try. This time I tried it on a smaller scale to save some material if it didn't turn out again. But with some new techniques I think I figured it out and it looks pretty decent. So Krebs, when ever you want me to show it to you, I think I got it. i will give it one more try and see if my techniques actually work or if they were just a fluke. I will post pics tomorrow when I have a better connection.

Can't wait to see how your doing this. I have some Ideas about flies for salt water using your method. I have to admit, it's pretty cool seeing how much your enjoying tying. Keep up the good work. Later Krebsie

Heck, I would fish with that fly.
It is hard to tell how big it really is, but I bet you wouldn't have to limit it to pike.

I agree; I'd sure fish with it. Great job. I'd like to see it at the February meeting if you'd bring it?

Those flies are sweet. I love all the flash, like a big spinner or a spoon. Definitely has some fish attracting qualities. With the right retrieve, these flies will be deadly! Great work!

The first two are tied on a 2/0 hook with 3/16 lead eys, I think. Krebs just gave me the hooks and said try that fly you were talking about.
The last one was tied on a 6.
So the first two are pretty heavy and I imagine could almost be used on a spinning or bait casting setup if you had to.
I will try to remember to bring them to the Feb. meeting.
Thanks for the encouragment Dustin

Les, That last fly could be a hot steelhead getter. Tie me up a half dozen. Pay you at the next meeting. Unless you just want me to fish with them and report back to you. Just kidding, I'll pay.

So I was able to actaully get the first two I amde in the water this eveing. Wow did they look cool. I was amazed that a huge hunk of flash will transform in to a great fly. the weigh was a bit much for the pond I was fishing, but in deeper water they should work great.
Casting them I think is going to take some practice. If I make it to the fly casting clinic I will bring them with me.
