Dustin,
Consider yourself on the agenda for the February meeting. Is your leader similar to riverman's Bimini twist bass leaders?

That's a great question... I'm not sure what those are. Maybe Riverman could show us those also? I've tied bimini twists before, and they are a little easier than making your whole leader. All of these leader and knot ideas are perfect areas for discussion in February. Maybe each club member could bring something leader or knot related to share with the group. Pat, could you bring an example of your silk furled leader? I'll demonstrate how to make one or two of the kind I'm talking about. We (all in attendance) can all discuss pros and cons of different leaders and knots. If others want to demonstrate a knot or two too, that's great!
Thanks to everyone in advance for preparing something to share.

Ok, all of this discussion rekindled an intrest in furled leaders. So I did some research on the internet. Printed off the plans for a jig and instructions to make furled leaders.
The jig itself was pretty simple to build. You DON'T have to be an accomplished woodworker to build one. The hardest thing is making sure your cuts for the dowels are square.
My first leader was made from 2 pound Trilene XL. But you can use 4 pound test mono, UNI-Thread, or a choice of other materials. Here is how it went.
1) Got both legs twisted. When I went to put the legs together I broke one. It was either twisted to tight or I had a sharp edge somewhere.
Mental note: Don't twist the thing so tight and sand and file ALL SHARP edges.
2) Got first leg twisted. Put the second leg on the cup hook in the drill and went to take the loops off of the dowels. The leader slipped off the hook in the drill.
Mental note: Take the darned loops off the dowels first!!
3) Almost had the first leg looped on the jig and pulled some of the loops off of the dowels.
Mental note: Slow down and pay attention dummy.
4) I GOT MY FIRST FURLED LEADER!!!
Ooga Shaga Ooga Shaga Oh what a feelin deep down in side.

Make sure you bring your contraption to our next meeting. It looks very interesting. Great work! We should have a lot to discuss at our meeting. AWESOME!

Reelteacher,
I'll bring it and try to do one. The hardest part is putting the loops on the jig.
I do have some ideas to modify it to make the task a little easier.

Sweet... No pressure here. I haven't the slightest idea either.
