The SS barryl on the shore of Spinney Mountain Reservoir. On Friday May 24 took a little trip to Spinney to try our hand at spring spawning pike. Unfortunately for us we where about a week to late. In fact nothing was biting except a few black flies. How ever the trip was not a total loss as the reservoir setting was incredible. Spinney Reservoir sets in a high mountain valley about two hours drive out of Denver. The nearest town of any size is Fairplay ( better known to most people as South Park....we didn't see Kenny). It's flanked to the west by the Collegiate range. And to the east by the western slop of Pike's Peak. This remote valley is the head waters of the Platte River it is for the most part all open range. Below the reservoir is the fabled "Dream Stream" gold medal catch and release trout water. Looking west toward some of Colorado's 14000 footers Wild donkeys and burros A wild donkey looking for a hand out buffalo At 8600 feet the air is thin but the adventure is well worth it.
