Hey crew have any of yous guys and gals tried, or rather tied, the new "Sculpin Helmet" from Fish Skull? These things are great! Relatively easy to use and lends to a broad headed wide, low profile. I've tied up about a dozen or more in olive and brown. I think they could, with a little trial and error, be used to tie a juvenile catfish or most any flat bottom bait fish design. If I can find a digital camera around here that works I will try and put a tutorial on the boards. flymenfishingcompany.org/products/fish-skull-products/sculpin-helmet/

I had a guide give me a fly with one of those helmet weights but I haven't tried it yet. I know I'm going to loose it on the first cast!

For about six bucks you get a dozen helmets in the small size (that's what I have been tying it matches the local bait fish out here best). I have been tying most with squirrel zonker for the tail/back and cross cut rabbit for the body. I then put on top of that barred marabou blood quill split to each side to imitate the pictorial fins and gills. Add bars with a prismacolor pin or marker on the tail and body. The fly scoots across the bottom just like a sculpin or goby. The squirrel gives the tall a lot more action than rabbit. I'm planning a pike trip this spring to some of the mountain reservoirs so I might buy a package of the large helmets and tie some big stuff.

Sounds like a good fly. I would love a tutorial on how you tie them. Let me know if you need any help with the pictures.
